Advantages: Cheap, tasty

Disadvantages: None

When shopping in Sainsbury's a few weeks ago I came across this pie in the chilled section. Sainsbury's Short crust Pastry Minced Steak and Onion Pie, it sounded pretty good to me, my husband really likes minced beef and onion so I bought a couple to try. I normally like to make my own but I decided to buy them instead because I really didn't feel like making one from scratch.

It comes in a foil tray inside a cardboard box, it weighs 520g so theirs enough for 2 people. It costs £1.99 which is a fair price for a good quality product especially seeing as it's for two people, that makes it just £1 a person, a very cheap meal. The box is red with Sainsbury's and the name of the pie written on the front as well as a really big picture of a minced beef and onion pie on the front which does look quite nice. Then on the back there is all of the nutritional information, ingredients and the cooking instructions.

I can't remember all of the ingredients but the main ones are:
Minced Beef Steak (26%), Onion, Wheat Flour, Beef Stock

The picture on the box does not tell a lie, as Sainsbury's Short crust Pastry Minced Steak and Onion Pie is full of minced steak and finely chopped onions with rich beef gravy.
The main ingredients are: minced beef steak (26%), onion, wheat flour, and beef

To cook the pie you simply have to put it in the oven for 30 minutes. This shows that it's a quick and easy meal as well as being cheap.

The pie tastes really good; the pastry isn't too dry which is great in my opinion. I hate always finding the pastry in ready meals dry but this was just right. I think that the mixture of onion, meat and gravy is perfect; it all blends together in your mouth really well. There are chunks of meat in here but they are not at all fatty or hard to chew. It all seems to be really good quality. It also smells really nice, whilst it's cooking you can smell the pastry, onions and meat but the onion smell isn't overpowering.

Overall I think that this is a great pie, especially to share. Recommended, ten out of ten.

Summary: Very tasty!
