Sometimes, in our house, we have the nights when we just want to get in loads of junk food and little mini snacks and just have a 'party' style tea with lots of sausage rolls, mini sausages, cheese on sticks etc and it really is yummy and great fun for the whole family. There is minimal washing up and although it can be a little expensive sometimes I don't mind paying more to not have to bother with lots of washing up and cooking before I can eat when I get in from work.

These Sainsbury's Mini Sausage Rolls can, naturally, be found in Sainsburys stores and on the www.sainsburys.co.uk website and they are available from the chiller cabinets. At present 20 sausage rolls, 310g, cost £1.59 or 2 packets can be purchased for £2.00. In addition to these sausage rolls there are other items such as cheese & onion rolls which can be purchased in the same deal. I ended up purchasing one packet of these and one of the cheese & onion rolls to try and add some variety for a change to the usual party food.

These sausage rolls are sausagemeat which is seasoned and wrapped in puff pastry. The sausage rolls are ready to be eaten but if you prefer then they can be heated in the oven or microwave until warmed through thoroughly. I prefer to just serve them as they are as it's quick and simple and I normally can't wait because I'm very hungry after working all day and then spending ages pouring over all the goodies on offer.

The sausagemeat is fairly meaty and it does seem to be well seasoned while the puff pastry is fairly flaky and puffy but when mixed together the sausage roll gives me a dry mouth and I always require lots of water. I know that most sausage rolls make your mouth like this but I did find these particularly dry which was a shame as I couldn't force down quite as many as I usually would in a matter of minutes. I drank lots of water while eating my party food tea and felt that I'd ran out of space before I normally would just because I was so thirsty! The sausage rolls were a hit with everyone in the family and while they were dry I did find them very tasty. The pastry has a lovely texture to it that's fairly chewy and the whole thing works very well. I would definitely purchase these ones again and was glad that I didn't have to faff around cutting up larger sausage rolls and could literally rip open the wrapper and dump them on a plate.

Each sausage roll contains 61 calories, 4.1g of fat, 1.6g saturated fat, 0.3g salt & 0.2g sugar so these, like anything nice really, should be enjoyed in moderation.

I will be buying these again as I think they are reasonably priced, particularly with the latest offer, and they tasted pretty nice. I am giving these sausage rolls 4/5 from me as they weren't the best I have ever eaten but they weren't far off!
