One of my favourite home cooked meals is Spaghetti Bolognaise. I've never made the sauce from scratch though, and tried this last week. I always buy a Sauce that has Onion and Garlic in it, as I like the taste of that mixed in with the Tomato and Mince, so that is how I ended up trying this one.
Ragu normally was my favourite until they seemed to change the recipe a couple of years ago and in my view the taste isn't that good. Also a jar of Ragu and Dolmio in my Sainsbury's was costing £1.72 for 500g, whereas this one only cost 98p. I was expecting it to be a bit more knowing Sainsbury's pricing, but I was happy to buy and try at that price.
The packaging is quite simple, but that makes it look more expensive in my view. It is a clear glass jar which is quite thick and wide. It goes in at the top, but the opening is quite wide as well. Not wide enough for me to get my plastic spoon in to get every last dreg out, so I had to vigerously shake the drops out and hope they didn't splatter all over the kitchen! It has a screw top lid and a white wrap around label. It states on the label that it is made in Italy and Gluten Free.
Upon opening the jar you see that the sauce is quite runny. You can see the odd shard of Onion in the sauce and you can smell a nice scent of herbs/onion/garlic tomato. Not overpowering and I don't think this smells as strong as the Ragu one, but it is more a subtle hint scent.
So I cooked with this no problem and settled down to eat it. The taste was lovely. It didn't taste that processed and the flavours mixed in well. Although you could taste the Garlic, I didn't have that problem when you can taste it for hours to come, or if you burp then you taste and smell it. It was a lovely Sauce and I will buy again as the price was good and the quality was good also.
My new choice of Sauce.
