Advantages: delicious
Disadvantages: none!
Why oh why are there so many gorgeous biscuits out there - especially in the aisles of Sainsburys? Also, why is it that I have so little will power as far as any of them are concerned? Because I haven't, I am writing yet another review about more of my favourite biscuits!
So where do I start describing Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Chocolate Ginger cookies? They look gorgeuus, they smell gorgeous and they taste out of this world! Mind you that's nothing more than you would expect as the Taste the Difference Range is that little bit special!
So let's start with the packaging. This range always has rather rich looking packaging with it's trademark burgandy. There is a very tempting picture on the front featuring not one, but four of these delicious cookies and they do look mouthwateringly good! They always have very tempting descriptions on the packets and for these cookies it reads:
'slow baked all butter cookies - plain belgian chocolate and spicy chunks of stem ginger'
Mmmm - that does sound good!
The packet also has all the usual nutritional values - 114 calories per cookie (which does not seem too excessive for such a wonderful cookie!), 6.0g fat, 3.7g saturated fat, 0.3g salt and 9.3g total sugars. Obviously these are all things you need to keep an eye on but they are not too worrying for an occasional treat! Also the biscuits are suitable for vegetarians and the packet has the little green leaf symbol to tell you so.
We are also told on the side of the packet that the cookies are made by biscuit experts with over 100 years experience - wow! they must be old! - and that 'slow baked' means that they are left in the oven longer at lower temperatures. This apparently makes them crumbly and not snappy! Well the proof is in the eating so read on...
Appearance wise these cookies are really top notch. They are coated with thick dark belgian chocolate and on top of this there are thin drizzles of lighter chocolate. The chocolate is quite rugged in the coating which I always like. If you break the biscuit in two you will see a lovely crumbly textured golden biscuit.
When you bite into it it really does provide that crumby texture that it promises. It is just the right consistency to bite into and I like the fact that every so often you do come across an actual chunk of ginger. The ginger is by far the most dominnt taste and is fantastic if you are a real lover of ginger. It blends really well with the bitterness of the dark chocolate and really is a tantalising taste experience. In fact it's quite scrumptious! I love it. It also has a nicely subtle smell from both of those strong ingredients.
These cookies are really a fantastic biscuit and they do provide a gorgeous treat! They come in packets of nine which is always a bit annoying because it often means that there is one left over and we have to fight over the last one! I have a real thing about odd numbers in packages but maybe it's a cunning marketing ploy to make you buy two lots! You never know! Anyway these packets of nine cost £1.09, obviously only in Sainsburys, but it's always worth looking out for special offers.
Overall, these chocolte ginger cookies are rather special and thoroughly recommended by me!
Summary: A thoroughy tasty cookie!
