Taste the awful difference (Sainsbury's White Chocolate and Raspberry Cheesecake)

I have long had a weak spot for cheesecake and in the interests of research and for the benefit of you the readers I have been prepared to purchase and consume a number of cheesecakes over the year, I do this in the full knowledge of the risk to both my health and waistline but I see myself as the Macintyre of the dessert world and no evil calorie laden cheesecake is beyond the range of my investigation or my spoon.

In an attempt to reach the 150 word count and get my 500 miles under Dooyoo or a VH rating on Ciao I could describe the packaging but hey it is round, plastic and keeps the cheesecake in place, enough said.

Purchased from Sainsbury the White Chocolate and Raspberry cheesecake is part of their taste the difference range and cost £3.99 and for that you get 540 grams of cheesecake that would comfortably serve six and could also easily stretch to eight, I did share mine with the kids and after they had each taken their one piece of white chocolate shaving from the top they were told to sod off to bed while I gorged myself. Actually I was only too happy to share this cheesecake as it was not very nice and I will not be buying it again.

The problem I had was with the taste and in particular the rather acidic taste of the white chocolate flakes that adorn the top of the cheesecake, they really did have a harsh edge to them which tended to linger in the mouth and I found myself picking them out. The thing is without the adornment there is nothing then about this cheesecake to justify its "taste the difference" price premium as you are left with a perfectly acceptable raspberry cheesecake. It claims to have crushed raspberries making up the sauce element but I saw little sign of this other than a few seeds and while it had a nice fresh taste it was also quite sweet and heavily sugared. The actual cheesecake filling was very rich and smooth and had a very nice texture to it as it had just the right consistency and was not too dry.

One thing I did like was the shortbread base that was very crisp and had a nice subtle taste that complemented the cheesecake well. Sometimes I find the base of cheesecakes to be either too moist or far too crumbly however this one was just right as it required a bit of pressure to slice through it however you were not worried that the cheesecake was about to fly off your plate.

Overall I was rather disappointed and have no plans to purchase this product again as there are some from the medium price range that are much nicer in my opinion. The chocolate flakes let the product down so it only gets one star from me.
