Advantages: Good quality

Disadvantages: Quite bad for you

I have always been a fan of the style of puddings that you used to get at school, crumbles, sponges and the sort. This was something that we used to get given now and again and was always a popular sort. I hadn't really seen this before as the Sainsbury's I go into at lunch is just a Local and therefore limited as to what it stocks. But one day they had this new range of desserts that looked quite promising. This cost £2.99 usually but one day they had them reduced to £1.99 which I felt fair.

As with this entire range, the tart comes in a black box, with a big see through square in the middle so you can see exactly what you're getting. The box suggests that it serves six which it probably would but I like a quarter at a time. One sixth has 296 calories so it's not a healthy option. The tart inside is held in a plastic tray.

The tart looks great. It has layers of butter pastry, raspberry jam and almond sponge with an apricot glaze on top to give it that shine and slices of almond scattered all over. It really does look appetising.

It tastes fantastic too. None of the layers dominates over the others so each mouthful you get a combination of all three flavours, the soft, crumbly pastry, sweet, juicy jam and the almond sponge which is nice and moist which helps as otherwise the tart could be a bit dry which I have found with some other versions of this. This can be eaten either hot or cold. I have only tried it cold so far. If you want it warmed up, it takes roughly 15 minutes in the oven. I think this would be lovely in the cold winter with custard, a real comfort food. For the moment though, it's too hot for that, so I have had it with some fresh single cream which compliments it just beautifully and takes away any possibility of it being seen as too dry and dull.

Fabulous!
