Advantages: Cheap

Disadvantages: Not a lot of taste

With the lovely spring weather that we've had over the last couple of weeks (albeit on and off) I thought that perhaps i'd get some choc ices in the freezer as my little girl loves them as she can hold them herself.

I came across the basics range of choc ices in Sainsburys (they are 60p for 10) and thought I would give them a try.

As with any basics range the packaging is basic cardboard and the wrappers are plain. When it comes to the choc ices themselves, they are of relatively normal size and the chocolate on the outside is crisp and relatively chocolatey. As for the ice cream, you can tell that you are eating a basic ice cream as it's not that creamy and doesn't have a very strong vanilla taste, but on the whole it's not that bad, and when eating the chocolate and icecream together, it is quite an acceptable choc ice.

They sort of remind me of ice creams when I was little (in the 70's) when we weren't used to chocolate that had a very large percentage of cocoa or ice cream that had bits of vanilla pod in it. They are basic but sometimes there's nothing wrong with that!

As a final point I would say that I have now tried the Sainsburys standard range of choc ices. These do have more taste and are only 94p for 10 so are probably worth spending a little extra on.

Summary: 1970's style ice cream
