Sainsbury's Freefrom

Description: Sainsbury's Freefrom range is designed for people with food allergies to milk, gluten or wheat.

... (healthily?). I know it's sad... Anyway, I settled on these cherry bakewells. Back in the car, I proceeded to rip open the bright yellow box and shovel one in. I was immediately struck by the granular nature of the pastry (which I think to had potato flour in the ingredients). This did not sit well with the intense sweetness of the icing. This box of cakes was not cheap. For four of them the price was approaching £3. Needless to say, the binge did not quite take place and I settled for eating one of these cakes p...more

Crowned Review Sainsbury's Freefrom: Freefrom - gimmick or genius? (774 words)

Sainsburys is cashing in on me, and others like me, but I'm not sure I object. You see, this new Freefrom range (the one being heavily advertised on TV) is designed for people with food allergies. Its meant to make it easier, quicker and tastier for us to shop at supermarkets. And presumably stop us disappearing off to health food shops and spending our money there instead of at Sainsburys. And since I have a food allergy (to dairy products), and have whinged for years about the way nothing is labelled properly and why does everything (sorbets! cereal!) have skimmed milk powder in, I'm pretty pleased. GOOD THINGS The concept of the range is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Freefrom - But Far From Free (872 words)

Being a vegan - and also wanting to limit the amount of wheat products I consume I am highly interested in the Sainsbury's Freefrom range. On a visit to Sainsburys, I can always be found scanning the segment of the store that is dedicated to the Freefrom range. This 'segment' varies considerably in size depending on the location (and the affluence of the customers) of each store. I have seen quite compact Freefrom areas and some quite sizable. The Freefrom area sells both savoury and sweet foods that are free from specific ingredients - mainly gluten free, dairy free and free from nuts. It is an area which is extremely useful for ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sainsbury's Freefrom: Sainsburys free from range - A breath of fresh air (223 words)

Two years ago my mum was diagnosed with an allergy to gluten. This has been very hard to her to adjust to as for all of her life she has eaten freely, whatever she wants. When she was diagosed we tried to find her some things that she could just grab if she was out. Having an allrgy to gluten means you cannot eat anything containing wheat or gluten products. This includes things that have bene cooked in gluten, made in a factory where things containing gluten were made. When we came accross the Sainsburys free from range we were really pleased. It is so refreshing to see a large supermarket chain looking out for ALL its customers. They ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review fortified but free from tons of stuff (625 words)

When we say free from, we immediately think of food. This is not always the case. Sainsburys fortified wine is free from such a lot of things. I am sure people who are allergic to certain ingredients might find this drink useful. This is for anyone who likes Sherry but cannot afford Croft Original or similar. Or for anyone who is allergic to things in other similar drinks. This is a fairly good imitation of sherry and has gotten the grand name Sainsbury's Stamford Pale Cream Fortified British Wine. Makers of fortified wine could not call it sherry. So Sainsburys had to find a suitable name for their product and got the name Stamford ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sainsbury's Freefrom: Death by free from chocolate (807 words)

NAME OF FOOD: Sainsbury’s “Free From” double chocolate cake bars PACKAGING All Sainsbury’s Free From products seem to come in yellow packaging, unlike Tesco’s, which is in purple packaging. In this case it is a yellow box with a grey box under the free from logo and picture of the item, which states that this particular product is Gluten, Wheat, and Dairy Free. Unfortunately for those with Egg and Soya allergies it is not free from these items, this is stated in the allergy advice box on the back of the product. There is a picture of one of these bars cut in halve on the front and a quick list of what each bar contains. There are symbols on ...  Read the complete review
