However, the texture of the buns was soft, and the raisins added a delicious after-taste. These buns are seasoned with spices, which also give them an extra kick and was a lovely addition to the flavour. When I was working on my Uni work today, a wave of sadness hit me that due to being so loaded with work, I really hadn't entered into the Easter festivities. Having treated myself to an egg, I decided to pop some of these into the trolley too. I haven't been a big hot cross buns fan in the past, but thought id still give them a try and hope they surprised me. Following on from my Jamie Oliver hot cross bun dessert quest - I also bought of course one packet of Sainsburys Hot cross Buns. Delicious spiced whit hot cross buns made with sultanas, raisins, currants, orange and lemon peel - this is what I'm told on the front of the packet. So do they live up to this statement then. Upon opening the packet I noticed the tops of them were extremely sticky, they smelt spicy yet sweet. They were easy to cut open and didn't crumble which is often a problem I come across.
