Advantages: not too expensive, light filling
Disadvantages: pastry is a litle too much afyer a while, doesn't taste as nice if not eaten straight away
I love Quiche, always have and probably always will. My favourite by far is Broccoli quiche, however, over Christmas, Sainsbury's had a special offer of two quiche for £3 so I decided to try another Sainsbury's flavour too and as my family like bacon I decided to try the Quiche Lorraine hoping that this product could persuade my husband and eldest son to start liking Quiche.
Appearance:
The Quiche was a decent size & certainly enough for two adults, two ten year olds and a toddler. I usually serve this with a salad so this was to be plenty. The pastry looked a good colour, not too light and not too dark and with a good amount and even coverage of filling ingredients.
Ease to prepare:
This was very easy to prepare. The product can be eaten cold as it is sold, it can be heated from chilled but it is also possible to freeze and obviously heated before consumption.
The product comes packaged in a foil tray within a cardboard box. If cooking from chilled or frozen, the guidelines are printed on the back of the box which makes this process very easy. The Quiche just has to be popped onto a baking tray and into the oven. When cooked, it is easier to be left to cool for a while and it is very easy to take out of its foil tray without the quiche crumbling and breaking.
The product itself:
When cutting into the quiche, the consistency is very good. The product does not immediately crumble and break up as soon other brands do. The pastry is soft light and crumbly to taste, although as if it melts in your mouth. There is a light and pleasant buttery taste to the pastry, however, I found this to be a little too much and over powering towards the end of my quarter of the product and ended up cutting off the pastry and only eating the filling. The pastry at the base of the quiche is thin and pleasant, this is not over powering at all. The filling is light and well balanced with around 3cm of filling within the product which gives the impression of a light and fluffy filling.
The overall taste was of bacon and egg. The product specifies that the filling contains bacon, egg and cheese. Sadly, I did not taste any cheese which disappointed me and maybe think that the filling may not have been so bland if there was a slight taste of cheese.
There was a small piece left which I saved for lunch the following day as the product specifies that the product will keep for up to twenty four hours after cooking. Sainsbury's were true to their word and the product was still looking good the next day, however, I didn't enjoy it this time around. The product had obviously cooled down and the taste was even more bland with the bacon having a synthetic taste.
To summarise:
The product as normal price is £1.84 which is a relatively good price if you wish to make this into a meal. As part of a diet, this product is ideal as at round 250kcal per quarter and accompanied with salad, this makes a very filling and low calorie meal.
However, I will probably not be purchasing this product again. I have found that other flavours of Sainsbury's quiche are very tasty, sadly not this product.
I was very let down at the taste when cold and was quite put off by this.
To summarise, this product isn't for me.
Summary: A decen product, could be better though
