Advantages: The size!

Disadvantages: It had no taste, was boring and bland!

I didnt know what I wanted for my tea the other night, I was in the middle of doing my food shop and that's a lethal time to not know what to have for my tea so I quickly headed to the fridges to find a fresh quiche. I do like a quiche now and then and hadn't had one for ages so figured this would be a winner!

They had boxes of family sized quiches and smaller boxes as a single portion for just £1 so I picked two up, one to eat that night and the other to freeze and save for another day.

Sainsburys Quiche Lorrainge can be found in the deep pink cardboard box with a picture of a cut up quiche on the front which looks very appetising. It clearly tells us it's Sainsburys Quiche Lorraine all around the box so no confusing it with any other type.

This one quiche contains;
455 calories
30.9g fat
12.9g saturated fat
1.0g salt
2.6g total sugars

The quiche, alongside other ingredients is basically made up of cheese, smoked reformed bacon, egg custard and shortcrust pastry. As it does contain egg, which is a form of protein it is quite a filling meal in itself in my opinion.

The single portion quiche is a generous chunky size, small in diameter, maybe smaller than Pukka pies, have you then them? Quite a deep quiche though. The quiche comes sitting in a foil tray very much like a pie does but of course you don't eat this lol! It does advise on the box to keep refridgerated but you can freeze it as well, guidelines and cooking instructions are provided on the back of the box for both a frozen and fresh quiche. Either form of quiche you simply pop it in the oven and wait the required time. You will soon see the top of the quiche turning a golden brown and the puff pastry darkening around the edges. If you do keep the quiche refridgerated you can eat it cold, although I've never liked quiche this way and always cook them and eat them hot.

I was quite looking forward to tucking into mine once it had cooked, it looked scrummy. Holding it with my fork and slicing my knife gently through it the puff pastry crumbled and the egg custard wobbled slightly. To eat it it definitely had the right textures, the slightly crunchy and crumbly pastry with the softness of the egg. Now and then I'd chew into a squidgy bacon piece. I have to admit though it was only the textures that sort of impressed me it didnt offer much flavourwise I was expecting the eggyness that usually comes with a quiche, slight cheesy savouryness and the bacon pieces to be smokey and tasty. Instead the egg was more like a wobbly jelly that I sucked up with no flavour at all, the bacon pieces were chewy and were not smokey or tasty in the slightest and the puff pastry was extremely dry. Overall I found the quiche boring and bland with little, or no flavour. I wouldn't recommend trying this quiche to anyone who likes them.

Summary: A quiche that looks the part but doesnt deliver on taste!

Tha Asda ones are nice, but i find myself veering towards the stronger flavours anyway, to get all the flavours you want out of this it would have to be homemade! Fab review hun xx
