Advantages: very tasty, best before date in best place
Disadvantages: goes dry quickly if left out, can;t eat on wheat free diet
NAME OF FOOD: Sainsbury's Taste the Difference carrot cake.
PACKAGING
It states that it is a new item (in a green box) on the box, which has a clear Perspex type section in order to see the cake on the left hand half of the box. This Perspex has a purple edge on the far left of the box. The right hand side of the box is split into two sections.
White
The white section at the top right, has a picture of the cake slice in the corner. The Sainsbury's logo is in beige/light brown writing on the white section. The 'Taste the Difference' tag is in purple underneath
Beige
The Best before date is in the bottom right corner. Yes, that's right I was shocked that the BB date was clearly visible and not in some obscure place on the bottom or elsewhere where you need to turn the cake upside down and ruin it to ensure it is still in date.
An icon in green states it is suitable for vegetarians, if applicable. This particular cake is suitable for vegetarians.
A small list of ingredients in a sentence designed to encourage you to buy the item is in light brown text. In this case it states:
"Pineapple & walnuts add a fruity sweetness to the carrots in this moist cake balanced by the zesty tang of orange butter cream".
This statement is repeated on the box sides in a purple section.
BACKGROUND
It was a colleague's birthday and she brought two 'Taste the Difference' cakes into work for us to try.
COLOUR
The cake was a beautiful golden brown with a white butter cream layer on the top, which was topped with pineapple pieces and walnuts.
TASTE
Almost exactly as described in the statement written on the box. It was very tangy. It was very moist and despite being left for a couple of days over the weekend, in the office (not the fridge) it was still OK to eat on the Monday, although a little drier, which was to be expected.
SMELL
Absolutely gorgeous. It was very tempting.
MAIN INGREDIENTS
Base states which ingredients could cause allergies. In this case, contains nuts, eggs, milk, Soya, wheat and gluten. As I now have a wheat intolerance this information is important to me to be able to find easily and I can not eat this item again to alter the review and add more about the taste, etc.
It also has pineapple, carrots and orange butter cream. Nutritional information - 1/6 of a cake has 250 kcal, 0.7g fibre, 32.4 g carbohydrates (sugars 23.5g), 12.4g fat (saturates 5.3g), and 0.2g salt.
PRICE
£1.89 for one box. This easily cut into about 8 or 10 good sized pieces. For a fancy cake, this was well worth the money.
GOOD POINTS
1. Allergies trigger points well advertised
2. Best before date in a sensible place
3. Extremely tasty
BAD POINTS
1. Other than it went dry when left out, no particular bad points noted.
AFTERWARDS
I was so pleased with this cake, I would like to buy it myself for special occasions and for work purposes, for others to eat.

This review was written for another review website some time ago, and I have only just had the product added to this site.
As I am now on a wheat free diet and therefore can not eat this product I am unable to add to this review.
As the product when purchased was new I took the time to review what was also good about the packaging. I am sorry if this bored you, but yes I do believe that some of that information would be extremely useful to consumers such as allergy advice, suitable for vegetarians, best before date being on the top of the box, etc.
Summary: yummy cake
