Advantages: very tasty, best before date in best place
Disadvantages: goes dry quickly if left out, can;t eat on wheat free diet
NAME OF FOOD: Sainsbury's Taste the Difference sticky toffee cake.
A new item (in a green box) on the box, which has a clear Perspex type section in order to see the cake on the left hand half of the box. The Best before date is in the bottom right corner. Yes, I was shocked that was clearly visible and not in some obscure place where you need to turn the cake upside down and ruin it to ensure it is still in date. An icon states it is suitable for vegetarians. the item states: "A moist and buttery toffee sponge, generously filled with a sweet caramel sauce and topped with a luxuriously rich toffee butter cream"The cake was a beautiful golden brown with a white butter cream layer on the top, which was topped with toffee or caramel pieces, which looked like chocolate shavings. Taste was almost exactly as described It was very moist and despite being left for a couple of days over the weekend, in the office (not the fridge) was still OK to eat Monday, although drier, which was to be expected.
Smelt - Absolutely gorgeous, very tempting and I wanted another piece.

TEXTURE For those of you who are not regular readers of my work, (as a werewolf) I tend to wolf food down (literally) and don't get time to check out the texture (or combination thereof).
DRINKS TO COMPLEMENT ITEM As I was at work I could only have had water (chilled bottled) or tea/coffee. I had coffee but that lasted longer than the cake(s). However, I would have used carbonated or soft (such as J20) had there been any available.
TASTE Can't be a wine taster - that's tange's job (another reviewer).
In any case, I wolf it down too quickly, didn't purchase the product and my hayfever prevents me tasting stuff as well as others do, so I tend to limit this section. Subtle hints are not good for me, as I can't smell or taste them between March and October. However, in my opinion this cake is the best I have ever tried. No aftertaste, to my knowledge. The frosting was brilliant and no the cake wasn;t too dry without it or improved with it.
CAKE TYPE Surface was soft not crisp.
Summary: yummy cake
