Sharwoods chutney is considerably milder in taste than most traditional mango chutneys as it doesn't contain chillies. What it does contain is an awful lot of sugar, more sugar than mango in fact making it incredibly sweet too. Still its what the western palate considers acceptable. Sharwoods mango chutney is incredibly sweet, very sticky and contains great big gelatinous globules of mango. I...more

Premium Review Sharwood's Green Label Mango Chutney: Good For Binge-Eating with Poppadoms (531 words)

I've just had a very nice butternut squash and chickpea curry for Sunday lunch with all the extras, naan bread, soya yoghurt with fresh coriander on the top, poppadoms and - of course - some mango chutney. I've tried many different supermarket brands of mango chutney - because I always like a bargain and I'll usually buy the cheapest and some of it is ok. However, I retain a soft spot for Sharwoods Green Label Mango Chutney because my Grandad used to eat it many years ago with his curry (Sharwoods was established in 1889) and I love the taste of it. It is the most expensive chutney I have seen, currently costing £2.09 at Tesco. The long jar and label ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Delicious mango chutney for my poppadoms. (403 words)

I cooked an indian meal for my family last week and was serving Poppadoms so when I saw a 360g jar of this chutney on offer for just £1.00 in my local Co-Op I just had to pick it up as an accompaniment. The chutney comes in a glass jar which is clear and has a black screw top lid with a press down seal on the top so you can check if it has been opened or tampered with. There is a green label on the chutney (this is Sharwoods Green Label Mango Chutney after all!) and it has the Sharwoods logo as well as nutritional information, ingredients & Sharwoods contact information. There is 48 calories and 9.8g of sugars per 20g serving (1 tbsp) so this should be ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sharwood's Green Label Mango Chutney: Mango chutney with your meal, sir? (339 words)

My wife needed mango chutney for a recipe last week, and asked me to get some. In our local Tesco's, of the three brands available, this turned out to be the cheapest on the shelf. Per 100g, I think it worked out a bit more expensive than the others, and it's the 375g squeezy bottle I picked up, as opposed to the more familiar format of a jar - this wasn't available. To start with, the squeezy bottle makes it easier to apply, especially if you're having it as an accompaniment to your meal, or for squeezing onto salads or sandwiches, as per the recommendation on the bottle. Mango chutney is used by many to add a bit of sweetness to an Indian meal ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Smooth sweet mango (269 words)

Whenever we make a curry we cannot resist some poppadoms and mango chutney to start. I like the sweetness that will contrast the hot curry to follow. Or you could use it on the side of the curry if that is your preference. I have tried a number of mango chutneys. I am often swayed by the price and have tried a number of supermarket own brands. You cannot beat Sharwood's though. It is by far the most superior mango chutney. It is pretty smooth and there are not too many chunks of mango. In fact, I prefer it to the home made mango chutney from our local Indian restaurant because theirs often have massive pieces of fresh mango. Although I love fresh ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sharwood's Green Label Mango Chutney: Scrummy chutney, but buy the squeezy bottle instead! (313 words)

I recently wrote a review for the version of Sharwoods Green Label Mango Chutney that comes in a plastic squeezy bottle, as up until then it was the only type I had tasted. However a couple of days ago I was able to try this glass jar version at a friend's house and was surprised to find that it had certain differences. I therefore decided it was worthy of its own review! Like the squeezy version, this mango chutney is sweet, very lightly spicey and quite cool. Because it isn't really strong like many other Indian sauces, pickles and chutneys, it is a nice compliment to spicey curries and makes a refreshing change. It's also great if you're not good handling ...  Read the complete review

Tastes great, good price, delicious with Poppadoms, easy to use bottle, less wastage. Lots of sugar, extremely sweet, may not be to everyone's taste.
