Advantages: Tasty, uses natural ingredients, a good selection of flavours
Disadvantages: ----------
I try to eat a yogurt everyday to help boost my calcium, although to be completely honest I drink so many cups of milky tea throughout the day that a solitary yogurt is not likely to make much difference - so it's a good job I like eating them otherwise I'm sure I wouldn't bother!
I rarely buy Ski as I think it's a very expensive brand for what it is, some of the supermarket own brand yogurts are comparable with this brand and cost roughly a third less. I only bought this pack of Ski Variety Burst because they were on special offer and cost just 99p, which is more or less the same as I'd pay for my usual own brand yogurts.
I'm impressed in an 'it's only yogurt' sort of way. I was pleased to find that the four flavours in the pack I bought were the classics; strawberry, apricot, peach and raspberry. I saw this because yogurt brands seem to be trying to outdo one another with weird and wonderful flavours at the moment, while I'm all for experimenting I just wish they wouldn't put one of these strange flavours in the multi-packs as if I wanted to try one then I would! I refer here to a Pineapple yogurt that I recently found in a pack of (I think) Sainsbury's yogurts which was absolutely foul and had no place next to the less exotic strawberry yogurts in there!
Each yogurt in the Variety Burst package was excellent. My favourite is easily the peach one as it's such a smooth and creamy snack, please be aware that each of these yogurts have pieces of fruit in them although I believe that Ski also do a range of Smooth yogurts in these same flavours. Personally I like fruit added to yogurts providing it's of high quality and it certainly is in this selection.
All flavours are quite thick, definitely thick enough for my plastic spoon to stand up in and stay standing up rather than flopping against the side of the pot and covering the handle in yogurt! This makes them a substantial snack and ideal for dieters as this Variety Burst range is much more filling than other brands of yogurt.
The yogurts are all extremely fruity and taste nicely of the individual fruits, the raspberry one in particular has a nice tangy undertone which instantly puts me in mind of the fruit. It's still nicely sweet, as are all the flavours, but hasn't scrapped the natural tartness of the raspberries in order to make a more average tasting yogurt.
My granddaughter is two and loves yogurt, I feel more than happy to give her these as Ski make these with all natural ingredients and browsing the ingredients list I can see nothing untoward. The thickness of the yogurts make them ideal for giving to a young child as none at all drips off the spoon even if my granddaughter is being particularly mischievous. However, please be aware that these are low fat yogurts so should not be used to substitute the full fat dairy products that it is so important for babies and toddlers to consume. My granddaughter eats so many yogurts and fromage frais over the course of the week that this is not a concern for us as the odd low fat product isn't going to make a great deal of difference.
Each 120g pot of yogurt typically contains 113 calories and 3.1g of fat (which isn't particularly low fat now I come to think of it!) and the pack of four costs around £1.49 depending, of course, on where you shop.
Summary: Not my favourite yogurt brand, but these are very nice indeed.
