Advantages: Tasty, low calorie, lower fat crisps

Disadvantages: Strong scent which others may find unpleasant

I'm a big fan of "lighter crisps" those with a lower fat and calorie content. However until the weekend I had not eaten a bag of Skips since I was at school. This was a bad move as I had forgotten just how much I like them!

***Packaging***

The packaging of Skips is very bright and eye catching. A bright yellow packet with salmon pink writing on the front of the bag.
Prawn cocktail flavour is also written on the front of the packaging in the same coloured font. There are also images of the actual crisps on the front of the packaging, which is quite busy.

***Price***

A standard sized bag of Skips is sold individually in my local newsagent for 35p. This is the same price as other brands of crisps in a similar sized bag. A multipack of 6 bags of Skips costs around £1.50 in supermarkets. There are often special offers on such as Buy One Get One free or two multipacks for £2.

***Taste***

Skips are described on the packaging as prawn cocktail flavoured. The crisps are shaped almost like a flower with petals. The crisps are a light golden colour with a pink coloured vein as an outline so this separates the crisp making it look like it has petals. I would say that although when you open the bag the scent is very fishy the crisps do not taste overly fishy. The taste is initial quite tangy and vinegary with a hint of prawns.

It is described that the crisps are fizzy and melt in your mouth. The crisps definitely melt in your mouth as they are so light and airy in texture but I do not agree they are fizzy, really just slightly tangy because of the vinegary taste.

The after taste of Skips is not overly strong or fishy but your hands after eating need washed as they end up with a strong fish scent which is unpleasant.

***Nutritional Info***

Each standard sized bag contains:

89 calories
5g fat

Skips also contain no artificial colours or flavours, or any monosodium glutamate. A tasty treat without hidden nasty's or lots of calories.

***Overall***

An excellent "lighter" treat which is a great alternative to ordinary crisps. Strong prawn cocktail flavour, just remember to wash your hands and brush your teeth after eating, those around you may not appreciate the strong scent half as much you do.

Summary: Light crisps which melt in your mouth, do stink a bit though!

'The taste is not overly strong or fishy'? And they call this food?
I am glad my local council made these illegal.

I think these might be veggie - having no prawns in whatsoever - I must research more.

Not to sound patronising but this really was a nicely laid out and informative review.
