Advantages: Light, enjoyable snack
Disadvantages: Not as filling as over savoury snacks
KP Skips are actually produced by United Biscuits and have been in production for almost thirty years. I remember as a child having these on a regular basis but the older I've got the less I've purchased them, and it wasn't until I stated on an opinion a few weeks ago that I didn't like them that I realised I hadn't had them for ages. So with this in mind I decided to give them another crack of the whip and bought a single bag on my next shopping trip. - Packaging - The packaging is very simple. KP have adopted the now common foil bag and kept its distinctive bright yellow back ground with the skips logo placed in the centre. The flavour is scrawled just across the top of the logo and the only other piece of text is the declaration of sponsorship for 'Stars in your eyes Kids' ? the ITV show where children impersonate singers. One thing I did notice, and perhaps the reason I haven't be drawn to these for so long, is that on the back everything is aimed solely at children. It has a tongue twister and even the ingredients delivers the title 'As boring as going to bed early! (but interesting for Mum). - The Product - Now the one thing I can say is that for a Prawn Cocktail crisp the smell is not as strong as you'd expect. Compared to other prawn cocktail flavour the smell is weaker and much sweeter. The actual crisps are exactly the same as I remember them all those years ago. A yellow shell shape (no bigger than 15mm in diameter) with red/orange veins running down each spine. Similar to the smell, the taste is nowhere near as strong as other prawn cocktail crisps but is tangy enough to be enjoyed. The flavour is very similar to that of a prawn cracker in a curry house, but the texture is much lighter. But the real sensation of this product is still the actual eating experience. Each shell like crisp melts slowly when you put it in your mouth and creates a fizzing sens
ation on your tongue. - Cost - My bag was 27p but research through other shops shows that the price varies from 25p to 30p. The bag is quite full compared to today?s levels but the corn snacks are quite light and not the most filling of crisps. - Verdict - It was a great journey back to my childhood and I must admit that I do like them very much. However, in today?s market there are far better options from crisps and other savoury snacks that will always get the nod over the Skips.
