Advantages: tastes good ,children like it
Disadvantages: Nestle
Often when the children at my school have a birthday they bring in a birthday cake to share with their friends. One of the cakes we had recently was a Smarties cake sold by Tesco stores. This is a nestle smarties cake not one I would buy due to my opinion on Nestle(see babymilk.org for my reasons) however this was bought by one of our mums to celebrate their childs birthday. The cake we received was a large cake costing £7.98p.
Tesco have several smarties cakes in store. a little gift smartie cake costing £2.99p this serves into about 6 small slices, also a pack of 12 individual smartie mini cakes this cost 1.59, a pack of 5 smartie cake bars these cost £1.09 then 6 smarties mini bites these cost £0.99p also available is a smartie sponge cake costing£1.09p. and the Smartie cake we had costing £7.98 So Tesco sell lots of variations of the nestle smarties cakes.
Now of course you could make your own cake and put smarties on it and if like me you wish to use these kind of sugar coated chocolate sweets you could buy M&M’s made by mars or some other similar own brand chocolate button.
However I am writing this review about the large Smartie cake
This cake comes in a predominantly blue box with the word Smarties and pictures of lots of little smarties dotted all over it.
Taking the cake out of the box I see a cake covered in chocolate icing into the icing is stuck many, many smarties, it does look quite attractive. There was a good variety of smartie colours. We put as candle on it and hoped the child who blew it out did not spit too much .The cake was then cut into pieces. There is enough for 16 small slices. (There were markings for making cutting easier) we got more as some of our children (special needs) only were able to eat ½ a slice.
As the cake cut easily and I noticed it was a chocolate sandwich cake sponge covered by the chocolate icing. The cake was sandwiched together with a chocolate butter cream. The children happily ate this cake, we did have lots of chocolate covered faces to wipe after (due mostly to the control, or lack of control my children have over their hand movements.)
Luckily for me and some other staff there was a little left over. So I had some, about ½ a slice. The chocolate was nice the cake good chocolaty and moist. This cake was good, a good choice for a Childs’ birthday party (shame it’s got nestle smarties on it) the cake was quite rich so you would not need to have lots at one sitting. In 100g there are 1806kj, 48g carbohydrates 37.7g sugar 24g fat.
This cake may contain traces of nut. Contains wheat and dairy so we had to be careful and not give it to our children with allergies.
This cake should be stored in a cool dry place and kept in an airtight container . It is not suitable for freezing .
Summary: A chocolate sandwich cake covered in chocolate icing and smarties

JB01 - 02/12/06 I've not seen them whilst shopping, a good review, you could introduce sections with headings, this might help to improve it. |
