Advantages: Bright Colours - Value for money
Disadvantages: New style of tube
History of Smarties,
Smarties have always been around as far as I can remember, from a very small child I recall being given a tube of Smarties. I recall as a small child popping the lid and then spilling all the Smarties on the floor. How things have changed since the early 1990.
Packaging
I think the nestles have done so well here to squeeze all the relevant information on to the small box, ok the main shape has changed has its now a hexagonal shape which means no more rolling of the table which is a real shame. The box is very attractive with good selection of vibrant colours and lots of nutritional information. I have to add that I do not like the lid, I so miss the old pop style lid it now has a more modern and I suppose functional hinged lid.
** I personally prefer the old style packaging as it was far more fun rolling your smartie tube around the room and after you had eaten all the contents you could pop the lid by standing on the tube and forcing the air out.
The contents
There open and you now have a full variety of bright and vibrant colour little Smarties in front of your very eyes. So what do they taste like...... After you choose which colours you will eat and the ones that you plan to leave for later. You will sample the hard sugar coated out side which will soon melt to leave a rather smooth, sweet tasting nestles chocolate on your tongue. There is not alot in the way of smell as these sweets are coated thickly in sugar. If your like me then you will enjoy the Smarties even better when you tip half the contents in too your mouth at one. Kids I do not recommend that at all. But as an adult I enjoy crunching my way through a fantastic selection of sugar coated little gems. Never expect a tube of Smarties to last that long I would say duration approximately 10 minutes for a adult and maybe up to 20minutes for children.
** I am delighted with the contents of Smarties and since they brought back my favourite blue ones I can say that I enjoy them more.
Value for money?
Well at 43p a tube in my local shop I would say yeah they are value for money, there a cool sweet which looks the part and the most important thing is that they taste good too. I don't think you can buy as many other sweet's like Smarties for the same price

Please remember that Smarties like many other sweets pose a choking risk to younger children, its my opinion that if you are allowing your young ones to sample the finest then ensure your supervising them.
Overall
I would recommend Smarties to anyone that like a sweet with a difference, the cost is good for what you get. The taste is yummy to say the least. There are many other uses for them too like when your baking a cake you can use them as decorations, kids can play games about colour changing tongues an my kids favourite they can be added to ice cream. The fact that Smarties now come without any added E numbers is a huge added bonus. This does not mean I allow my children them all the time. Like many other sweets there still bad for children. But the odd sweet will not do any harm.

dmandrew - 08/04/08 They are amongst the most fun sweets you can get. Orange ones and brown ones are still the best. |
