Advantages: Lovely and light

Disadvantages: I miss the cylindrical tube :(

Smarties, ah, a staple of my childhood. I fondly remember my grandparents buying me tubes of these delights and then having competitions with my brother, trying to down the tubes in one guy, and subsequently nearly choking to death! They should thus have a choking hazard sign, intended not for babies, but idiots like me!

I was a little disheartened to see that most iterations of Smarties have changed the packaging now slightly, so it's not quite a tube, but this is just nitpicking on my part - the important part, the taste, hasn't changed one bit, and these are light, refreshing and addictive sweets (the latter of which isn't so useful considering they also resemble drugs!). There's also the added test of having to put your finger into the tube in order to salvage the last few smarties that have congealed at the bottom with their colouring melted off. Still, like they say, sometimes you have to let the extra ones go (unless you're aforementioned idiot child).

Smarties have a variety of colours, and are like smaller versions of Minstrels - they have a crunchy shell, accompanied by a soft chocolate interior. They're light to carry around and easy to pop a bunch into your mouth at once. They also frequently appear on cakes, and there is even a birthday cake itself manufactured by Smarties that is absolutely delectable!

Summary: Light and delicious

I miss the old packaging - I used to collect all the plastic lids .
