I'm not a good cook. I don't mean that I burn things, or that I can't cook a nice meal, or that I get the white wine mixed up with the bleach. But I panic. I get very flustered in the kitchen, especially when attempting to co-ordinate meals that say... Have one or more things that need to go in the oven, at different heats and for different times. So, occasionally, I'll forget something. I might ...boil up a pan of water for the veggies, only to forget to put the veggies in the pan. Or I might forget to turn the oven down halway through cooking a roast and burn it to a crisp. I've learned to live with my deficiencies in the kitchen, and keep a stock of stuff ... Smash Instant Mashed Potato In case you haven't seen this before, it is basically powdered potato, which when you add boiling water, becomes light and fluffy mashed potato in minutes. Even if you haven't tasted it, it is likely that you have seen the adverts ("For mash get Smash") or seen it on shelves in the shops. A 220g packet costs around £0.90 and you can also buy it in a large metal tub (which is refillable). The amount guidelines differ according to how much you are making, but are listed on the back of the packet. Simply boil a kettle, add the correct amount of water to the powdered potato and stir. Then add butter if you ... Read the complete review

I am a big fan of any kind of potato in any kind of form. Pretty much every meal I eat has to contain some kind of potato portion. I generally don't buy frozen or ready made potato products as I much prefer the taste of home cooked meals but I do always keep a pack of Smash Instant Mashed Potato in the cupboard for emergencies. ~The Product~ Smash Instant Mashed Potato may not be for everybody, but I believe it has improved over the years. Smash mash used to be little hardened cubes which I found no matter how much you 'mashed' the potato after the water had been added, you always ended up with lumpy mash. Nowadays the formula has changed and the mash is ... Read the complete review

I'm not the hugest potato eater unless it comes in the form of Chips, Crisps, Waffles or Croquets. I first picked up Smash a couple of years ago when I was making a shepherds Pie and it said to use 6 potatoes for the topping. "That seems like a bit of hard work" said me, who was preparing to cook a meal from scratch. I can't be bothered to cook and mash potatoes, so I added a pack of Smash and have used it ever since. Smash is a pack of powdered Potato granuals and you just add boiling water to make a mound of fluffy Mash. Nice and easy. The pack size is 220g and it says that it makes 7 portions. Not sure if it does, perhaps as a little ... Read the complete review

Did you know that every potato is peeled then cooked in steam which helps to retain the flavour and then the potatoes are dried and formed into flaky pieces for your convenience? I can see that you don't look impressed and I don't really blame you! But I will tell you that the Smash makes a pretty decent fishcake. Just last week I was racking my brains trying to think of something different for supper. Bingo! Home made fish cakes, then I looked in the vegetable rack and groaned, not a potato in sight, OK if you counted the hairy ones that had some six inch sprouts I had four! I am no big fan of anything instant really but if push comes to ... Read the complete review
