Advantages: Tasty if you don't have too many
Disadvantages: Pretty messy residue on your fingers
I have just got back from Sainsbury’s and the kids are settled down watching Mr Tumble on the TV. They are eating Wotsits but I got out the newly bought Frazzles.
Frazzles are made by Walkers and on the multi pack I brought today for 99p for 6 packs it says in big white letters "30 years". Not sure if that means Walkers have been around 30 years or Frazzles but will do a bit of research in a minute and see if I can find out for you. Frazzles is written in big yellow letters across the packet and the main background is a burgundy colour - meant to remind you of bacon I guess. On the back is all the product info I will talk about later.
Opening the packet you immediately get a whiff of what actually does smell like cooked smokey bacon. It is unusual for me to think a product actually smells of the flavour it is meant to represent but this one does.
The crisps (or corn snacks as they are called) themselves are rectangle in shape and measure roughly 4cm by 2cm each. They have grooves running down the length of them and have a sort of bacon coloured strip down the top of each groove. To be honest it doesn't resemble a strip of bacon at all but you are so used to seeing these that is what you think of when you see it.
One crisp fits easily into your mouth, but unlike potato crisps it only takes a couple of chews and it kind of disappears into your mouth and teeth. It leaves a bacony taste on your tongue though. The flavour is quite nice actually, and if you put 2 or 3 in at once it becomes a stronger taste that makes my cheeks water. The more you eat the more your back teeth fill up with crunched up corn snack. This sounds horrible but you can pick it out easily with your tongue and it doesn't taste nasty.
I would say though that if you were to eat too many a packet at once the flavour would become too much, for me anyway.
As far as nutrition goes each bag contains 121 calories and 5.8g of fat.
They are suitable for vegetarians as obviously the bacon flavour they say they use in the ingredients is not real bacon!!
As I said before I paid 99p for a multipack of 6 which works out at just under 17p a pack which is really good value when you consider the price of a single pack of say Quavers or Walkers Salt & Vinegar etc.
The only bit I don't really like about these is the bitty feeling they leave on your fingers after you have eaten them. You have to either wash your hands completely after or really rub your fingers together to get rid of it. I would plump for washing them though as they do leave a smell on your fingers too.
OK - having a look on their website at www.walkers.co.uk the 30 years, sign on the packet relates to - I haven't got a clue actually. I looked all over their website and can't see anywhere about the 30 years. I am taking a guess that it must mean Frazzles have been around for 30 years as surely that would have been on the main Walkers website if it was for the whole company. If anyone knows the real meaning, please let me know and I will edit the review.
