Preamble/ramble
Having not embarked upon many snack related reviews, I believe now may be a good time to address this particular deficiency!

I’ve decided to choose the Snickers Bar as the subject for my review as it is a snack that I enjoy on a regular basis. Probably too regular a basis if I admit it, but there we go!

That Name

Snickers. That’s the name of this particular chocolate treat. Now call me old fashioned but I feel that there is something not quite right about this name…

I suppose it comes down to the fact that I remember many moons ago when these bars were called Marathon. Now that was a good name, Marathon. It conjured up images of being on a very long run and needing some sort of energy boost. What better thing to do that to gobble down a Marathon Bar and give yourself that sugary energy injection?? Marathon. Splendid name.

Sadly it seems that the Marathon name was no longer deemed suitable for us. I blame it on Globalisation. I blame a lot of things on Globalisation, from pollution, poverty and global warming, to whenever I stub my toe on the bottom of a door! Anyway I digress…

So where was I? Oh yes, that Snickers name. Why did they call it Snickers? It sounds too much like “Knickers” for my liking. I’m not sure associating a chocolate bar with somebody’s smalls is a particularly good idea! Is it an American name? Maybe they thought it sounded like “Sneakers”? I guess that would put us back in mind of running marathons! Perhaps though it is just some old rubbish made up by an overpaid marketing director!

Anyway, to cut a long ramble short, that Snickers name. Knickers to it, I don’t like it. It’s Pants. Sorry, Knickers, no I mean, Snickers! Damn it!! Look it’s not a good name OK??

Bring back Marathon!

What Must We Pay?

Why, that would be 32p to you, chief.

Packaging

The Snickers Bar, (and that’s the last time I’m going to say that stupid name ok?) comes packaged in a plastic sort wrapper that is quite thin, but seems to do the job of keeping everyday dirt and grime out of the chocolate treat.

On the front we have a large Snickers (noooo, I said it again!!!) logo, presented to us in a fairly jaunty type set.

We also see pictures of nuts (not that sort, madam!) on the front. Presumably this is to remind us that you may well encounter roasted peanuts within this bar. A whole lotta peanuts to be precise!

As an aside, I once heard dark whispers of a Snickers bar that had not one peanut in it. Yes! The caramel layer was devoid of nuts completely! Of course I cannot confirm these rumours. I heard of this from a bloke down the pub…

Not much else to report on the packet really. On the back is bar code and a handy best before date. (Tip, do not consume bar if the best before date has expired!!)

The Good Bit

OK, wake up at the back! Here’s where it gets interesting. I get to eat the chocolate bar and tell you what I think of it!

On opening the packet, we see that the bar is completely enclosed in milk chocolate. Good start! Taking a bite then, your teeth chomp down through the choc into a layer of peanuts encased in caramel, down through peanut butter nougat and finally through another layer of choc on the lower side of the bar. We have quite a lot of different tastes and textures going on here!

As you might imagine there is a definite peanut-y theme going on here, with the combination of roasted peanuts and peanut butter nougat.

This peanut-y theme is offset nicely by the chocolate. I for one deem this combination to be highly acceptable.

Thinking about texture, well it’s sort of crunchy really. It would have to be with all those peanuts in there!

However, hold fast! For there is smoothness here too.

We must not forget that nougat, caramel and chocolate are also present here. Yes and they make for good bedfellows with our friends the peanuts. What we see here is a veritable 4-in-a-bed romp going on with those decadent peanuts, caramel, nougat and chocolate! Disgraceful behaviour!!

Continuing onwards in our chocolate bar odyssey, we need to discuss the overall taste of the bar.

Well it is very sweet that is certain. In fact it could be a little bit too sweet for some. In fact I would definitely recommend that you give your teeth a clean if possible after eating this snack as it is very sugary.

It is also very peanut-y. In fact it is probably just as well that the bar is very sweet and covered in chocolate, as otherwise you could be quite overwhelmed by the peanut-y flavours on offer here!

How Long Does It Last?

This standard bar should last you an acceptable amount of time. But for those of you who always want more (and you know who you are), there is always the option of the mighty King Size Snickers (not that name again….arrgghhh!!!)

Value For Money?

32p to indulge in a chocolate, caramel, peanut and nougat romp? Sounds worth it to me!

Conclusion

To sum up, what we have here is an enjoyable, good value for money snack. An important requirement for anyone wishing to indulge themselves in this particular treat is that you must like peanuts. The peanut flavour is quite a dominant part of this bar!

I would recommend this chocolate bar to anyone who has a sweet tooth.

Forget that crappy name, just enjoy the snack!

Thanks for reading!
