Advantages: fills you up

Disadvantages: no good for nut allergies or lactose intolerance

Now I don't want to sound sexist, but there really isn't a more many chocolate bar than the wonderful Snickers is there? It's the best selling chocolate bar in the world, and I think I know why.

THE HISTORY:
It's the 1930s, and the Mars company, hot off the heels of their Mars Bar, create their second product; named after their favourite horse, the Snickers was born.

WHAT ARE THEY:
A chocolate bar containing nougat, caramel and nuts, the Snickers was known as 'Marathon' in the UK until 1990, when Mars renamed it to match the US name.

WHY ARE THEY SO NICE:
For me, the best thing about a Snickers is its ability to fill you up and make you feel well nourished like no other sweet product on the market. When I used to DJ I'd be on the road late at night, hungry and tired, but a quick Snickers would get me going again. It's very filling, and feels like a meal in a bar more than anything I've ever eaten. Of course, it gives you a sugar rush, but the nuts must do something for filling you up to, so it's a delicious, quick and filling snack.

THE INGREDIENTS:
milk chocolate (sugar, cocoa butter, chocolate, skimmed milk, lactose, milkfat, soy lecithin, artificial flavor), peanuts, corn syrup, sugar, skim milk, butter, milkfat, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, lactose, salt, egg whites and artificial flavor.

The key thing here is that it contains nuts, and so people with nut allergies will not want to eat it. Likewise, it contains lactose, so lactose intolerant should also avoid.

THE COST:
At around 40p minimum, and often more, it's not cheap, but that's in line with other similar products such as the Mars Bar, which does nothing to fill you up like this one.

Summary: mmm

I was mad about these when I was pregnant. The salt, chocolate and nuts tasted lovely together.
