Advantages: Mars bar + Peanut = Snickers

Disadvantages: Heavy calorific and fat content

Snickers were originally called "Marathon" Bars. No-one knows why Mars (Masterfoods) decided to rename them to Snickers in 1990. I can remember being appaled and lots of people laughing at it as it just sounded ridiculous. But, the decision pushed the sales figures up from Britains ninth most popular chocolate bar to third apparently, so the business decision paid off.

A snickers is bascially a mars bar with peanuts inside it. It has peanuts in the nougat and peanuts in the caramel section at the top. If you keep them in your fridge and slice them up (really really yummy) you will get a Damian Hirst cross section (I'd rather look at a cross section of a snickers with its peanut variation pattern than a shark, but that's just me...) and you will see what I mean about the peanuts being in both the caramel and the nougat sections. You get large bits of peanut at the top and smaller peanut pieces in the nougat. You wouldn't normally notice this design aspect/ attention to detail on the part of Masterfoods.

If you use a bread knife to slice it up you will end up with crinkle cut pieces of snickers too (just an idea). !

I find if you try to eat these at work and you have an office job, more often than not somoene will phone whilst you have a mouthful of a Snickers bar and you will breathe in before you take the call and inhale some shards of peanut and send the next few minutes coughing .. I've done this so many times its not funny any more. I should just stop eating these at work... But they fall into the snack chocolate bars category, they are chunky enough to satisfy your chocolate cravings.

One 56g bar will give you 293 calories and 16.5g of fat- so they pack a punch nutritionally. I prefer these to Mars Bars as they have the extra peanuts so they are a bit more interesting to eat.

You can buy Snickers Bars individually and in multipacks of 6, snacksize packs of 10 and punsize packs (around 20-25 mini bars per pack). They are sold everywhere that sells chocolate and they are a major player in the confectionary market.

Summary: Good to try, nicer to share
