Advantages: Great textures, nice chocolate
Disadvantages: Too nutty and too crunchy for me
Many moons ago I loved Marathons. Yep for people over 30 you probably remember the name change and still call them Marathons as I do! Nowadays of course they're Snickers and along with the name change Melanie (me lol) forgot about them and moved to pastures new.
The other day however I so wanted a bar of chocolate and for some reason this simply appealed to me all over again and I realised it had been a while since we had met so at 40p a bar (yep they have gone up in price since I last purchased one) I grabbed one to eat on the way home from the shop!
The Packaging:
Brown coloured plastic, oblong wrapper with the word Snickers on the front/top of it and there is a small picture of the chocolate on there as well as being told that it contains no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives and I'm told to 'Get some nuts'. On the back/bottom of the wrapper other information includes a simple looking nutritional chart, ingredients are listed, size is stated (which in this case is 58g) and contact details for Mars (the manufacturer of this product) are given. Plain wrapper, easy enough to open and it's informative enough.
The Chocolate:
Upon taking the chocolate out of it's coat (wrapper) I wasn't impressed by the size of it at all. Sure I know time has past but it's a lot smaller than years ago! It's really shrunk! Still oblong in shape though and rather thick it has a milk chocolate coating and it's rippled to the top of it and smooth to it's base.
Biting into this was interesting. The chocolate was as I have mentioned milk chocolate, light brown in colour and rather yummy. Nice and sweet, rich and creamy, nothing to complain about there at all. It has a nougat layer to the bottom of it which is creamish in colour and light and airy and your teeth sink through that and mixed with the chocolate it gives a somewhat yummy gloopy texture to the whole affair. The top part of the bar is of course roasted peanuts which really do taste like roasted peanuts and you can see them wrapped in a caramel sort of hardish sauce which in contrast to the nougat is rather sweet. Together the textures go really well and everything tastes natural and not artificially sweetened.
However for me although I know this is a nutty bar it overdid the nuts in my opinion and they were so crunchy I almost chipped one of me teeth! So I was left less than impressed!
Verdict:
High quality chocolate bar..this is to be fair to it. The tastes and textures all go very well together but for me a bit too nutty and crunchy!
