Advantages: Tastes great, very flavourful
Disadvantages: Sugary junk food
This morning just as an experiment I replaced my usual cereal with some diet cereal thinking that I was being smart and saving some calories and that I would really notice the difference. But by around 9:30 I was ravenously hungry and a herd of buffalo couldn't have kept me out of the shop at work. I went in and after browsing the chocolate selection, decided on a Snickers bar.
Snickers was my choice because I wanted something substantial and filling rather than a simple chocolatey treat, as I had a lot of work to get done this morning. After eating the Snickers I felt completely re-energised and was able to go out and get done what I needed to do, which involved a lot of walking about and a fair amount of heavy lifting. It's fair to say that Snickers did help me find the strength to get the job done.
Snickers is a chocolate-coated bar that contains a layer of nougat and, on top of that, a layer of caramel that is filled with peanuts. There is a lot going on in this bar and every bite is absolutely packed with flavour. All of the ingredients blend perfectly well together and you get the crunch of the peanuts in each bite, along with a bit of creamy caramel and the soft, sweet nougat to chew on. The chocolate of course is what drew me to the whole experience and it is smooth and creamy and rich and seems to be of good quality.
The Snickers bar does have a slightly salty taste as well as the sweet, perhaps due to the roasted peanuts. This complements the caramel flavour extremely well. The layer of chocolate is also nice and thick so it's not just a coating but it really adds to the taste of the overall bar.
My Snickers cost me 50p from the shop at work but you can buy them in packs of 5 for £1.69 from Tesco. They do contain a whopping 296 calories per bar so these aren't meant to be eaten everyday but only for a special treat. So much for eating diet cereal in the morning - that certainly didn't help me out caloriewise today but it was completely worth it to have gotten to have a Snickers.
Summary: Go on, treat yourself.
