Advantages: Sweet and tasty

Disadvantages: Nuts could be a problem for some

I have been trying to cut back on chocolate recently, but unfortunately succumbed when I saw Snickers bars on sale at the checkout in Morrisons recently. Being good, though, I bought just one bar and that cost me a very reasonable 32p.

SO WHAT ARE THEY?

For those of you who are not familiar with Snickers bars, let me tell you a bit about them.

A single bar is about the same size as a Mars bar and consists of a peanut butter nougat and caramel centre, and an outer covering of milk chocolate and roasted peanuts. Many of you will remember them as 'Marathons' - that is before they changed the name to Snickers!

TASTE

Snickers are irrisistibly tasty. They are far superior to rival bars like Mars bars, which have become disgustingly sweet and sickly over recent years. The ingredients used are just right and complement each other very well indeed. The caramel and nougat provide a sweet, gooey centre and this contrasts with the crunchiness of the roasted peanuts.

NUTRITION INFORMATIO N

Obviously, Snickers bars are NOT suitable for those who suffer allergic reactions to nuts because of the presence of peanuts. They are, however, suitable for vegetarians.

Nutrition information per bar is as follows:

Energy 1351kJ/323kcal
Protein 6.0g
Carbohydrate 34.1g
Fat 18.1g

WHAT TO LOOK FOR

Snickers bars come in a brown wrapper with peanuts emblazoned across the sides and 'Snickers' in bold blue type. This is set against a white background and surrounded by a thin red border. Although the wrapper is quite plain, it is
surprisingly still very alluring and this is probably due to the stark use of colours used.

PRICE AND AVAILABILI TY

You'll find Snickers in all newsagents and supermarkets. As I said, single 64.5g bars cost around 32p each, but multipacks are invariably better value for money. According to Price Check on the Tesco website, 6 packs of Snickers currently cost £1.24 in Tesco, £1.25 in Morrisons and Sainsbury's and £1.18 in Asda.

OVERALL OPINION

Snickers are definitely one of my favourite chocolate bars. They are sweet, ideal as a quick snack and always appeal to the tastebuds.

If you're feeling adventurous, you could also try Snickers ice cream bars, although I am yet to try them myself.
