I love soft liquorice. I am especially fond of Black Opal Australian Made Soft Eating Raspberry Licorice. (please excuse the spelling of Liquorice, it's how it's spelt on the packet) I have loved red liqourice since I was a young child, it seemed to be readily available in both hard and soft varietes when sweet shops were proper sweet shops with jars of delicious comestibles racked up behind the counter. I?m rather partial to a little bit of liquorice but these days it seems to be getting difficult to find. I went into most shops in my hometown a short while ago, looking for Pontefract cake and couldn?t find them anywhere not even the supermarkets. There is only one shop I found that even sells the kids liquorice; you know the pipes and things. One day when I was looking through the latest Lakeland catalogue. I discovered Darrell Lea's Australian Soft Eating liquorice on a visit to Lakeland Limited's shop in the Lake District a couple of years ago. As we are a family of liquorice lovers I bought four packs, with the intention of putting some away. It was so delicious that we ate the lot!!!! Okay, so it sounds greedy but liquorice is good for your health. (Did you know that at one time in hospitals they used to prescribe liquorice for people with constipation?) This particular brand is (according to the packet) blended from raw cane sugar, wheat flour, molasses, treacle, natural liquorice extract and a hint of pure aniseed oil and claims to be 97% fat free.
