Advantages: Tasty and low fat
Disadvantages: High in sugar and no good if you dont like raisins.
I love anything that has a cinnamon and raisin flavour to it and have been addicted to cinnamon and raisin bagels lately. Imagine my delight when I came across this flavoured Soreen loaf whilst I was doing a food order on approvedfood.co.uk? I almost jumped out of my seat when I saw that they were selling it for just 50p so I didn't think twice about clicking the 'Add to basket' button.
I will expect that most people remember the advert for the Original Soreen loaf and ever since I tried a bit of this at the weekend, I have had the words 'Shhhhhh Doreens having her Soreen', playing over in my head.
The loaf is a bit like a minature cake and is basically a fruit loaf that has raisins crammed into it. There is obviously a hint of cinnamon in this particular flavour but the original doesn't have this. To be honest I would have never picked up one of these in the shop but it was such a good price that it didn't matter if I didn't like it.
When you open the packet you are immediately hit with the cinnamon smell which I think is divine. The loaf was easy to cut but I was expecting it to be cake-like so it surprised me when it didn't break at all when I manouvered it from plate to plate and plate to hand. As I squeezed it you could tell it was very moist and it even had a mouldable tendancy to it. I bet I could have made a model snowman with it if I tried.
The slices are very big so I had to have two and I expect most people would find it better with a spreading of butter on it. I leeft that part out because I don't like butter.
I took a bite and was surprised at the texture of it. It was quite hard to chew but it kind of melted in your mouth at the same time. The outter crust was quite thick but it wasn't hard at all and the whole thing was very moist. The raisins were nice and plump and definately made theirselves known. As I bit into them there juices spilt out and made my mouth water.
I really enjoyed the flavour of the loaf. The cinnamon was over powering but it was definately present and the whole thing was very fruity. I wasn't left feeling heavy after I had eaten it even though I ended up having three slices.
I was surprised to see that there are only 2.2g of fat per 100g. There are however 27.9g of sugar so don't be too fooled!
Over all I really enjoyed this loaf and it made a change from my normal sweet treats. I think if you enjoy cake and a cuppa then you might want to try this.
Summary: Made a nice change!!!
