Advantages: Moist and fruity

Disadvantages: High in sugar

I only had time for a quick nip to town today, just to pick up a few essentials, as you all well know that its virtually impossible to come back without buying something that wasn't on your shopping list !
I was just sauntering past the cake shelf in Farmfoods and I spotted a malt loaf, I haven't had one for ages and just as I was going to stick one into my hand basket my friend who works there made me jump out of my skin. "Try one of those!" she was yelling in my ear.
By that time Julie was frantically grabbing this cinnamon and raisin malt loaf off of the shelf and cramming it into my basket, so in the end I had little choice. It was 55p, so I had nothing to lose really.

I have to say, not quite convinced on the cinnamon front, I like the taste but only if it is in the background. By the time I had made the coffee I could have eaten a horse between two slices of bread so the malt loaf was prepped up ready for buttering.
Soreen have used more or less the same design for the malt loaf wrapper so that it probably why it didn't jump out at me. There is one key difference though, look at the wrapper again and the overall colour and design may be the same but there are cinnamon sticks and raisins pictured on the front rather than just fruit.

I love simple packaging, nothing pleases me more and the spicy loaf is in just the one plastic wrapper- brilliant.
The one thing you notice as you take the loaf from the wrapping is the rising smell of cinnamon, the loaf looks more or less the twin of the ordinary malt loaf and it has the same shape and feel to it too.
I can never cut these types of loaves successfully, use a sharp knife and the slice caves in, use a serrated edged knife and the end result is still the same. The loaf is so moist and gooey that it seems impossible to cut a neat looking slice.
But lets face it, the slice is only going to end up being eaten straight away so does it really matter?
Malt loaf or cinnamon loaf it just has to have a good layer of thick creamy butter to do it justice.

I usually cut the loaf into about six good slices, Soreen say eight slices but they would be small ones. An eighth of a loaf contains 77 calories, it is high in carbohydrates and sugars yet low in fats.( less than 5%)
The loaf does contain whey and gluten. You can put it into the freezer and it is suitable for vegetarians.

My squidgy slice of Soreen cinnamon loaf was good, the raisins were moist and plentiful, the loaf was sweet. the cinnamon was there but only in the background and the loaf was extra moist.
Soreen still make the loaf using malt flour and malt extract so that lovely malty flavour is still the same.
Have you noticed how chewy these types of loaves are? Absolutely delicious!

Soreen started out as a family business and the business was run by the Sorenson family, hence the name Soreen. They also make the malt loaf, the Go loaf and the Plum fruit loaf.
If you don't use all of the loaf in one day then try toasting it the next day, as it toasts the fruit warms up and when you butter it the butter melts in deeply, you try it and see.

Summary: Delciously moist, fruity and spicy

Cinnamon in a malt loaf? There ought to be a law against that sort of thing.
