Soreen – the Fruity Malt Loaf I love malt loaf… well, I love Soreen Malt Loaf. It is delicious to eat, especially when it is lightly spread with butter. ~ What is malt loaf? ~ I’d just finished eating a delicious slice of Soreen Malt Loaf and thought I would sit down and write a review about it while the taste is still in my mouth. However, I then realised I have no idea what malt loaf actually is. So, I thought I would do a little bit of research to find out. Wikipedia describes malt loaf as “a common snack food in the United Kingdom… It is made from malt and often contains fruit such as raisins”. I now feel a little silly, ... Read the complete review

We all love malt loaf in our house, i find that soreen malt loaf is very fruity tasting compared with others we have tried but i do find that it is a little dry. I love mine with butter melted onto it, i spread the butter onto the malt loaf then put it in the microwave for a few seconds to melt and it tastes great, the butter moistens the fruit loaf and eliviates the problem of it being dry. This is great as a snack as it is healthy for you, and definatley a lot healthier than snacking on crisps or chocolate. I use this in my daughters lunch box for school aswell because since they brought in the healthy eating in schools we cant put ... Read the complete review

Eeee when I were a lass. I used to come home to the gorgeous smell of freshly baked cakes, buns and biscuits that mum used to bake. Home made jam and bread, nothing can compare to those simple wholesome treats from my childhood. Cakes, buns and biscuits were for after meals, never for in between snacks. One of the few pre made afters that mum bought occasionally for Sunday tea was Soreen Malt Loaf. She used to carefully slice it making sure that we all had the same amount, and then liberally butter each slice with Adams best butter. All five of us kids would greedily eye the plateful in the centre of the table while eating sandwiches made from the ... Read the complete review

I first discovered Soreen when a friend suggested it to me as a replacement for 'Veda Bread' which is a malty loaf that you can only get in Northern Ireland. It is not the same as Veda per se (Veda is more like a normal sized loaf and does not have any fruit) but I am still partial to the odd slice of soreen. Basically, this comes as a wee small packet and is a 'long life bread' rather than something that goes off in a few days, its pretty squidgey too so can be a problem to cut - therefore I recommend the one that is already sliced. It tastes amazing though with a strong malty flavour and packed full of fruit - most people eat it just with ... Read the complete review

Soreen fruit loaf is a family favourite in our household. I often buy it when it is on special offer and put some in the freezer for later in the month. What is it? *************** For those of you who have never seen Soreen loaf I will describe its juiciness. Soreen is dark, sticky, fruity, sweet 'bread', with a very soft chewy texture. It is made from malt and contains raisins. It is usually eaten sliced and with butter, although my hubby also loves a slice of Cheddar cheese or crumbly Wensleydale on the top too. My opinion ****************** On opening the packet you get a loaf, 7.5 " long and 3" wide. It is dark ... Read the complete review
