Advantages: Great Taste, Good Packets, Fair Price

Disadvantages: None

I was looking for a chicken sandwich in the garage the other day as I was hungry but didn't have time to stop for a proper lunch. They only had a choice of a few left that I didn't like though, so instead I decided I'd try a Soreen Snack Pack. I do like a bit of malt loaf as a general rule and of course Soreen are the authority on this stuff as it is.

In each little pack there's a yellow plastic tray inside the wrapper to stop your malt loaf getting squashed on the shelf or in your bag etc. I think it's a brilliant idea actually and good to see that they haven't gone and scrimped on the packaging just to save their profit margin by 1p a pack or something silly! Inside the packet are two slices of malt loaf sandwiched together so that the butter on them stays put where it should. The butter used is Anchor which most people will know is a good quality, creamy butter. I think it's a great classy touch that they used a popular brand name instead of el cheapo margarine.

The taste is really nice. The malt loaf slices are quite small but standard sized for malt loaf (about a third of the size of a slice of bread). The slices were about 1cm thick each and had plenty of the Anchor butter on both slices. They were lovely and chewy and gooey thanks to all the raisins squashed into the malt loaf slices and the butter just gave it that extra nice taste.

I only paid about 65p for this packet and as that was in a garage, I bet you could get it even cheaper in some other shops. Think how much I saved on the price of a regular sandwich too. I wasn't sure I'd be full after just one of these as the packets do look quite small but because the malt loaf is so thick and chewy, I found that one packet was enough to fill a gap until I could get home for my dinner later on.

I've got to give this one five stars. It's a really original idea that's well packaged and price, tastes great and makes a great change to the usual convenience foods you get.

Summary: Good For Hungry Daves
