Advantages: tasty, healthy, popular name
Disadvantages: can be pricey
I'd not long enjoyed the Pear and Apple Special K cereal bar, and went in search for another scrumptious option. When I spied the Bliss Bars, I decided I would give them a try, and opted for the Orange and Chocolate flavour.
As I sat with the attractive box in front of me, I tore open the cardboard, only to reveal six individually wrapped bars. The wrappers looked most appealing; blended shades of orange and white, with an image of what the cereal bar was to look like. If it happened to seem as delicious as it was portayed to be, I was going to be happy!
On opening the shiny plastic wrapping, the strong zesty orange aroma blasted out in an instant, filling the air around me. It was amazing, and looked just as gorgeous. Holding the bar now in my hand, I took a bite. Never before had I tasted such a scrumptious cereal bar! The chewy cereal was neither too dry or too moist, and was quite crunchy too. The little orange pieces were fairly chewy too and full of strong tangy taste. The layer of chocolate on the bottom was a nice thick size too, and tasted of dark chocolate (Bournville to be more precise). This smooth layer went fantastically with the sweet taste of the rest of the cereal bar, and provided a fantastic little snack.
Special K bars are said to be good for weight loss (eaten in moderation, of course!) though as these were 'Bliss', I had expected them to be quite unhealthy. This, however, was not the case! Each 22g bar contains 88 calories, 8g sugars and just 2g fat! They also contain 0.9g of fibre.
*WARNING*; each bar contains milk, barley, oats, wheat and soy.
Brand name products can be quite pricey, and now with the rising cost of food prices, we are starting to watch how much we buy. These are quite expencive for what they are, at £2.19 a box. Though, they are definitely worth it in my opinion, bought now and again.
Thankfully, you will not waste your money on these, as even if you don't eat cereal bars that often, you will not have to throw them out uneaten. They have a good shelf-life, lasting many months after purchase.
Cereal Bars themselves are quite versatile. Although I enjoyed mine as a healthy filling snack, they can be eaten on the go for breakfast (though I would not recommend this!). They are a nice size and can easily be popped into lunch boxes as a healthy but delicious alternative to chocolate!
As amazing as these were, how do they compare to others? I don't always like chewy cereal bars, quite often preferring softer oaty based products, but I cannot deny that this is most definitely the more appetising chewy bar I've tried in a while. It definitely tops the Apple and Pear Special K bar, and others similar. It's a lot healthier than many too!
This is definitely worth a try, whether you are trying to lose weight, eat healthy or just fancy something a little different!
