To be quite honest I was a bit apprehensive when I first heard the brand name of this product. Just like the television advertisement says...why'd they have to call it Stagg? But once I tried the classic I was hooked. The spicy flavour mixed with the onions, peppers, beans and beef was absolutely amazing.

But hold on a minute...this version is missing one key ingredient...the minced beef. I would have thought that with the removing of such a key ingredient from chili would have a massively detrimental effect on the taste. I couldn't have been more wrong. True the beef is removed, but there are more vegetables and more flavours added in this tasty version. I'm not a vegetarian, & I do like my meat, but this makes a real change every once in a while. The vegetable version is also much healthier than the other Stagg varieties available, being much lower in fat & calories. In fact, at just 1% fat, it is way below the government recommended guidelines of 5%, & would be a great, tasty (and more importantly, filling) meal for anyone trying to lose weight.

One downside is the cost. At approx. £1.75 a tin, Stagg chili does seem to cost way more than store brand chili...but like always you get what you pay for. I still prefer the classic, but this is definitely a great substitute when you're wanting something a bit different, with that same great Stagg flavour.
