The Chews that Ooze!!
Fruit flavoured chews with liquid centre made with real fruit juices.
Starburst Choozers are the new variety of fruit flavoured chews from the Mars Corporation. I am a big fan of sweets; especially fruit chewy sweets and one of the best varieties around have to be Starburst.
Starburst were originally know as Opal Fruits and I know many people who still lust whimsically after Opal Fruits and still have not embraced the name change. Opal Fruits were first produced in the UK in 1960. In 1976 they were introduced in the States under the brand name, Starburst and due to the fact that Mars wanted to standardize their product Opal Fruits were changed to the American name, Starburst in the late 1990's.
The original Starburst sweets can be described as fruit flavoured chews in a cube shape. These new Choozers are a little bit different. For one they are not cube shape, they are more of an oval shape. They are pretty much the same size as the original kind, not very big; each sweet is probably ½ inch wide and a ¼ of an inch in depth. The sweets come in a packet of probably about 10 or so sweets and each one is individually wrapped. They are wrapped in a type of clear waxy paper with the word Ooze written on them in black writing. Each packet contains a mixture of different sweets so you are guaranteed to get each flavour in the packet.
Originally Starburst/Opal Fruits only came in four flavours, strawberry, lemon, orange and lime. These new flavours are a mixture and different to the original and are described on the packet as 3 explosive flavours. They are as follows:
Raspberry and Orange
Pineapple and Orange
Orange and Mango
The flavours all work really well together and I think are a good combination. The colours of the sweets are all a pastel type colour, not bright like original Starburst.
The chews are not hard but they do have quite a solid consistency to begin with. It's only once you have them in your mouth and begin to chew that they become chewier. The liquid is contained in the middle of the sweet so if you bite them in half that is where you will find all the juice. The liquid I would describe as having more of a syrupy consistency to it, not thin liquid a fruit juicy but it is incredibly juicer and sweet and gives the whole sweet a very nice texture to it when you chew it all up in your mouth. The sweets are extremely juicy, whenever you eat one your mouth really seems to water and leaves a really nice taste in your mouth.
The packaging of these sweets is also quite youthful and fun and definitely would appeal to a younger connoisseur. The packaging is a bright red colour and Starburst Choozers is written on it. Underneath the Choozers word is a picture of a sweet cut in half with some of the juice dripping out to show you what you can expect from the sweets.
A package of sweets weighs 41g. The nutritional value of the sweets is then given per 100g. The amount of calories per 100g totals 395 so if you eat a whole packet of sweets you are consuming approximately 158 calories which I guess is not too bad compared to say a packet of Skittles which are well over 200 calories for about the same amount of sweets.
The sweets generally retail for approximately £0.35 and can be purchased at most convenience stores. I definitely recommend them, so go on, try something different today!
