Advantages: Liquid centre.

Disadvantages: Sickly.

Years ago the star burst brand were known as opal fruit. They were popular sweets, and one day dramatically they underwent a name change to starburst. It may have been to become more of a european friendly name if they were trying to break the european market, as several brands also did this at the same time (for example Jiff changed to Ciff). The sweets themselves did not change however, and are still the yummy formula that many people have come to know and love.

Star burst fruit chews are a deviation to the standard star burst sweets but not by much. The sweets are small and square with rounded edges. They are wrapped in papers individually, which means you have to unwrap them hurriedly before stuffing them in your mouth! I am not sure whether the wrapping is recyclable or not, but that would be a huge bonus if it was. The sweets are all different bright summer colours, like orange and red.

The sweets are soft and chewy, a bit like fruitellas and chewits, if you have ever tried them. The difference here is that the sweets have a liquid centre. You bite through the chewy part and into a soft liquidy centre. It is a bit of a surprise if you are not expecting it as the liquid is colder than the rest of the sweet and a completely different texture and consistency. The inisde has a similar taste to the outside, very sweet and fruity. The inside flavour is made to correlate and match the flavour of the outer part.

The sweets are nice, I get addicted to the sweet fruitiness of them, and end up eating the whole packet before I know whats happened, which is not good for my teeth! The two textures compliment each other as do the flavours. I know these sweets are a bit sickly for some people, which makes me not quite give them the five stars that some might argue they deserve!

Summary: Nice variation of a popular sweet.
