Advantages: Sugar free!, Last a while
Disadvantages: Expensive, Yuck if you chew it!
Why I even take my toddler to the supermarket I don't know. After moaning the entire way round we get to the check out only to be deafened by the chorus of every 2 year old in the shop; "CAN I HAVE SOME SWEETIES!" they then demand the most expensive ones on display, well done Tesco's! Trying to avoid a scene I bought some fruitensse for 49p (I know I'm weak).
Once outside my toddler decided he wanted to eat them NOW! but I couldn't get the little bit of celophane off the top to save my life. So we had the tears and the stamping followed by a full blown tantrum. Aaaargh! Well as it turned out I ended up confiscating the sweets and eating them myself. Hooray I do have some control over the child (trying to convince myself I think!). Still I was really annoyed with the packet. Other than that it comes in quite a nice little see through tube with a bright yellow flip top lid on it. Quite nice if you are a toddler and like bright colours, and have a weak mum. Thanks starburst, great marketing!
On the plus side they are sugar free (but have sweeteners and E mumbers instead, whoops glad I ate them!) Also the packet warns that excessive consumption causes laxitive effects! Nice! There are only 285 kcals (not bad when one pack contains only 11.4g).
On to the tasting, each pack contains 4 flavours: orange, strawberry (pink), blackcurrant (purple) and apple (green). Each one tastes very different.
Orange; sour and tastes of hermesetas: Awful!
Strawberry; very sour for a few seconds then very sweet, quite unnatural, but really moreish! Yum my fave.
Blackcurrant; a lot like the strawberry one, but really does taste like blackcurrant jam. Lovely.
Apple; like most apple sweets it is what we expect apple sweets to taste like but not at all like real apples which are fresher. Again really nice.
There is no smell at all to any of them.
I like to suck these but i made the mistake of chewing one earlier. It was like one of those chalky rennies you used to get. Not nice. Also you get a film on the roof of your mouth which my partner likes but i hate it and have to go clean my teeth quickly.
I can't help but think these are a bit expensive though. However saying that one will last a good five mins if you suck it gently.
I just wish supermarkets and newsagents would wise up and put all these nice things away from toddlers beady eyes to save us poor frazzled mums!
