Advantages: delicious, variety in texture, cheap

Disadvantages: unhealthy

I'm always up for trying something new, no matter what the circumstances, so when I came across Toffifee, I took the dive and liked where I landed!

*****
I was in my local Poundland store (I can't remember what reason I went in, in the first place!) and was queuing up by the far till. Next to this massive queue, there was a few shelves, stacked high with all sorts of sweets, displayed in boxes of all sizes and colours; Cadburys, Maltesers, those weird little bubblegum ball things that are impossible to chew...endless options. I hadn't set out to buy anything from this section, but then one particular box, sitting on the bottom shelf, caught my attention.

The cardboard box was a mixture of light and dark browns, looking very 'chocolaty' and appetising! On the centre of the front, there was an image of a cluster of the sweets stored inside. They looked most unusual, like little sweet cups with a brown button on top, surrounded by nuts. I'd never seen these before, and was baffled by their unique appearance.
I looked at the name, which was printed across the top in block white letters. I thought I'd misread it, so I checked again. Nope, I was right. These little treats were called 'Toffifees'. Well, for whatever reason, I had a little giggle at that (though, looking back...I don't know why!). It was quite an unusual name, to say the least! I couldn't help myself from buying a box! Hey, it was only £1!

I took the box of sweets home, and sat at the end of my bed, the box on my knee. I couldn't wait to sample what was hidden away inside!
I slid out the white tray that was inside. It was wrapped in one of those plastic covers, so I tore into that, and stared at what was in front of me - a tray filled with twelve delicious-looking cups. The aroma that rose up was an instant dose of bliss...so sweet and heavenly. I could certainly smell the chocolate, that was for sure. And there was another scent there too, most likely the caramel, but at the time I wasn't quite sure. What ever it was, it was magnificent!

I could wait no longer to have a taste. As carefully as I could, I drew one of the little cups out of the tray and held it in between my fingers. The bottom of it was round, as if it had been shaped in an egg-cup. The top was more flat, with a chocolate 'button' sitting neatly on the centre. I nibbled a tiny bit of the outer layer - I thought it was toffee, but turns out it's caramel! Never in my life have I tasted such creaminess before, and I'm sure I'll never have anything as delicious again! I took one big bite right through the middle - the entire contents revealed as my tongue gets a taste of what seemed to be the best combination in the world. Not only was the caramel smooth, but that chocolate button was so soft and delectable. There was an even softer type of caramel hidden away inside, perhaps a different sort, a lot sweeter this time, and even more unique! Then came a surprise - the nut. I don't know why I never twigged there was nuts in it when I saw the image on the box, but thankfully I have nothing against nuts, and enjoy them once in a while. Obviously, the nut was solid, and provided a sort of hard centre point to the cup, giving it even more variety!
When all those different tastes and textures are mixed together, a heavenly rich and divine creamy sweet is created.

Toffifee is a German product, first making an appearance in the 70s (you should see what the packaging looked like - very dull and basic!) Toffifee stretched out to tv commercials by the 80s, and by the 90s it was a popular, worldwide product. Still, almost a decade into the millennium, and Toffifee is still a fun and delicious family treat!
There is an official Toffifee website (just goes to show how big the sweet treat is!).
www.toffifee.com
It is a marvellous website, full of information, and you can also view the latest Tv Commercial airing in Germany (I do German at school so I can understand some of it!). I feel the advert is a bit basic, but maybe it is a mega thing in Deutschland! You can also email the company...(!)

----------
NUTRITION
The nutritional facts are given on the website, but for those who cannot be bothered to look, I shall state them for you!
In 100g toffifee, you can find:

535 calories
6g protein
58g carbohydrates
31g fat
and it is made up of...

41% caramel
37% nougat (I never would have guessed)
12% chocolate
10% hazelnut
Again, this is shown on the website, with a catchy diagram!

----------
Now I've tasted Toffifee, I crave it every time I see it! Though, I thankfully can control my cravings and hold myself back from buying such a cheap and divine treat, as I'm not keen on indulging on something so high in calories and fat!

One thing about Toffifees, they look so splendid alone! They make fantastic sweets to serve up at parties, for example, as they look spectacular, and quite honestly look a bit expensive (well, more than £1 anyway!).
They're quite grown-up sweets though, very rich in taste and elegant! I don't think many young children would take a liking to these, but I may be wrong!

---Would I Recommend?---
There is no doubt in it, I would certainly recommend Toffifees! They are exceptionally cheap, and have the most perfect taste! But as I have said, they may not suit everybody! They aren't necessarily suited to the youngsters, and those of course with nut allergies! They can be quite sickly sweet after a while, and unfortunately very addictive!

Otherwise, Toffifees are perfect!

Summary: A tasty toffee-based treat!
