Advantages: good quality raisins
Disadvantages: more expensive than own brands
I just love the attractive red packaging of Sunmaid raisins; it has a picture of ripe grapes on it and the Sunmaid, a picture of a girl with her dark hair and a red hat she is sitting in a round yellow sun carrying a tray of grapes... The sunmaid in the picture was a girl called Lorraine Collett Petersen. A painter painted her in 1915 when he saw her in her back yard in Fresno California. She really does make a lovely image, perfect for the logo of sunmaid dried fruits.
I sometimes buy a large pack of raisins to bake a cake with I usually buy cheaper own brands but sometimes the Sunmaid raisin carton as they are in all honesty slightly better raisins .
Sun maid is a Californian company and has been selling dried raisins and other fruit from California since 1912. Sun maid is a co-operative owned by raisin grape farmers in the great valley in California. This is a very fertile valley growing lush fruits.
Sunmaid raisins are sold all over the world.
Sunmaid raisins are available in packs of varying sizes the 24oz carton which I use for storage or a 250g box, or individual 1 ½ oz boxes which are sold in multi packs of 6. Then there is the mini boxes containing about 14 raisins sold in bags with 8, 14 or 18 cute little boxes ,.
I bought a pack of 8 of the mini snack size in the summer. possibly in Tesco but may have been in Morrison’s or Sainsbury. Sorry I can not recall the price or find it on the web sites but as a guide 18 mini boxes cost £1.29 at the mo usually cost £I.69. I seem to remember the 8 pack cost about 60p.
I bought this mini pack because we were going picnicking in the summer and they are an ideal size for my grandson aged 4 just to have a few better for him than a chocolate bar or a biscuit. These mini boxes contain about 14 raisins in it. Per 100g contain 1285KJ protein 3.0g, Carbohydrate 71.0 g, fat 0.7g, fibre 5.9g. A cup full of these raisins provides one adult portion of the 5 a day fruit ration.
These really mini boxes are ideal for adding to the school lunch pack up, or for that playtime snack. They would also be a great treat to meet your child with at the school gate after school, I don’t know about you but my child was always starving when I met her at the school gate. These little boxes of Sunmaid raisins are also a super size to pop in that party goody bag, or you could use them as prizes in the games. These raisins are a snack to be enjoyed at anytime. The slightly bigger 1 ½ oz boxes might be better for adults but these are fine for adults they just might want 2 or even 3 boxes to eat for a snack .
I really like the little boxes the raisins come in so do not throw away as you can refill them with raisins from the bigger 250g box works out cheaper, or you could always fill the empty boxes with another brand of raisins. You will probably find the other brands do not taste so good though.
This an art activity I thought up before Christmas . The empty little boxes would be ideal to use for an art craft project at school, wrap up in Christmas paper and make presents to put at the foot of the bed in the night before Christmas display board. These little boxes are good for me to use with my special needs pupils for finger control, fine motor practice opening boxes, a lot of my pupils have poor hand control and can not open boxes other pupils can but need practice so the incentive of a raisin in the box will encourage them to open the box.
These raisins are 100% natural no preservatives no oils or glazing agents added. These raisins are seedless.
So how do these raisins taste? Well they are a real treat plump and juicy sweet and flavoursome.
These raisins are best stored in a cool dry place.
You could use these raisins from the small mini boxes inn salads or add them top your breakfast cereal but I would recommend you use the larger packs of the same raisins, more economical.
