Advantages: Great Snack, Many uses

Disadvantages: Not good for allergy sufferers

Peanut butter either you love it or you hate it, for me it is the ultimate in comfort food after a rubbish day at work or a stressful time planning my forthcoming wedding.

Sun-pat is the best brand out there and is manufactured by Premier Foods which just happen to be the leading food producer in the UK and currently 98% of UK Households own a premier foods product such as Sub-pat, Bisto and many more.

Peanut butter was originally developed by a physician in St Louis back in 1890 as a nutritious easy to eat food and was popular throughout America and was not introduced to the UK until the 1960’s.
The Kellogg brothers had recognised that this was likely to become a popular brand and got involved very early on in the production stages and John Kellogg was actually credited with developing peanut butter.

*~*What is in Sun-pat Peanut Butter?*~*

Quite simply Sun-pat Peanut Butter is made of 4 main ingredients and for the purpose of this review the Super Smooth contains the following ingredients:-

Roasted Peanuts
Vegetable Oil
Cane Sugar
Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil
Sea Salt
Total Peanut Ingredients 91%

Peanuts are a nutritious source of energy and are high in protein and fibre which make them an ideal snack.
Peanut spread such as sun-pat is a nutritious snack for children and adults as long as it is eaten in moderation.

*~*How is it made?*~*

Sun-pat make their peanut butter by roasting the peanuts for their flavour and also to enhance the colour that is given to the spread. The skin is then removed and the sugar, salt and stabiliser is added and all the ingredients are then mixed and ground to a smooth paste before being packaged ready for sale.

So as you see as Peanuts are not really a nut they are a bean and there is no butter added to the product it can't really be classed as peanut butter can it??

Sun-pat can easily be recognised on the shelves with its bright coloured lid and the sun-pat logo across the front of the jar and the logo of the sun, this certainly stands out against own store brands.

There are actually two different ways to make your own peanut butter but I would save the time by popping this in your trolley during the weekly shop as it is much tastier!

There are many different types of Sun-pat spread and some are more crunchy than others so there are different stages of production that give each different type its texture.

Sun-pat produce 5 different types of peanut butter these can be identifed by the labels on the jar :-

Sun-Pat original Crunchy which is the original and classic crunchy peanut butter.

Sun-pat original smooth which is similar to the classic minus the crunch.

Sun-pat creamy crunch which is crunchy with super smooth base.

Sun-pat creamy smooth which is super smooth and the one I base my review upon today.

Sun-pat Chocanut which is my favourite as it combines both chocolate spread and peanut butter spread delicious and the ultimate indulgence for sitting infront of the TV watching Bridget Jones with a spoon in the jar delicious........right back to the review!

*~*What does it taste like?*~*

The super smooth Sun-pat peanut butter is a wonder for the taste buds as you fight between the texture and the taste, as I spoon the peanut butter from the jar my taste buds begin to tingle in anticipation waiting for it to enter my mouth and as it does the flavour just explodes and as I fight to move it from the roof of my mouth the taste becomes intense and sweet and I begin to think I should definitely have added it to some bread before I ate it, there is an unmistakable aroma of peanuts, I mean come on that is what I am eating and it is not disguised to much by other ingredients which is nice.

It is at this point that I decide to ask my partner what it looks like and open my mouth to show him how it has stuck to the roof of my mouth and he says he does not really like “see-food” and to close my mouth!
The colour is a very pale brown colour similar to a gingerbread colour and is very appetising you just want to poke the contents in the jar!

*~*Prices*~*

Prices vary as doesn’t everything, I tend to get my jar from my local discount store and it is very quickly consumed on vast amounts of toast either at work or settled down in front of the T.V for supper.
I have seen it available from 80p but have seen it as much as £1.75 so it is worth looking around if you shop in a few different places.

*~*Peanut Allergies*~*

Peanuts are known to cause many allergic reactions in a short space of time, this is mainly because the proteins found in peanuts travel quicker through the gut to the immune system causing an allergic reaction. Peanut allergy can be very sever and in some cases can lead to death, however one good factor is that symptoms appear almost immediately.

It is unknown exactly how many people suffer from peanut allergies, luckily I am not one and therefore can enjoy many foods containing nuts although it is very rare I will just eat a handful!
It is suggested that 1 in 200 may be affected by peanut allergies at present.

The main symptoms of peanut allergy are tingling of the mouth and lip, facial swelling, nausea and tightness in the throat, however some people may experience a more adverse reaction which could result in the swelling of the airways and could collapse and fall unconscious.

It is said that allergies can develop at a very early age however it is most commonly recognised within the first 3 years of life as more infants and young children have been reported to have allergic reactions.

If you are aware that you have a peanut allergy then unfortunately you would not be able to enjoy products such as Sun-pat peanut butter as they do say you should completely avoid peanuts as it is very rare that if you have a peanut allergy that you will not grow out of it unlike other food allergies.

*~*How to eat Peanut Butter*~*

Eat it from the jar if you need a bit of comfort food it is ideal, however it can be quite sickly so try not to go over board.

Spread it on sandwiches or toast alone or with Jam its a real taste explosion!

Search for recipes and get creative.

*~*So is Peanut Butter good for me?*~*

Peanuts promote good dental health and what is more one serving of peanuts, equivalent to a small handful, only has 181 calories. A two tablespoon serving of peanut butter is only 187 calories so these high energy foods can easily fit into a balanced diet.
Peanuts and peanut butter are vegetable products and therefore naturally contain no cholesterol, they are also one of the highest vegetable protein sources among all the legumes and nuts and every serving contains almost one-quarter (24.5%) protein.
So basically as with most foods a little bit does you know harm but know your limits.

I follow a healthy eating plan and am still able to incorporate this into my diet and enjoy it as a treat every now and then.
There are over 300 uses for peanut butter and many recipes can be found that include peanut butter, my all time favourite is Chicken Satay with peanut dipping sauce delicious!

Summary: A great snack food.

I've never tried peanut butter other than in a kitkat! Thanks for the recommendation, it's my mission to buy some this week, I hope it's as yummy as it sounds!
