Advantages: cheap, esay to find, great flavour
Disadvantages: none
I have recently taken to home cooking in a big way, usually I tend to eat junk food from the freezer and Chinese take away's.
Since starting my weight watcher diet, I have been looking very closely at foods and what they contain, and I have come to the conclusion that baking your own is ideal as you can monitor what you are exactly eating.
Roughly three weeks into my diet, I decided to make a cheese cake and to my surprise the recipe told me I would need vanilla pods, well I didn't have a clue where to start, so off to Tesco in search of these little vanilla pods.
I trailed up and down the herb and spice isle but I could not see them, so I started to look for something I could use in the vanilla pods place. Then suddenly staring right back at me was this super cook natural vanilla extract, I picked it up and rush to the check out to pay the small price of 1.31.
The product is made by Supercook, who have become a household name over the past 30 years and they currently produce over 150 different product, flavourings and baking kits.
I have since learned that this vanilla flavouring is a must in every sweet baking recipe, it can also be used in some savory cooking dishes.
Natural Vanilla comes from the fruit of the orchid flower.
SuperCook Natural Vanilla Extract is the real thing made from the extract of fine quality vanilla pods, so I never need to go and hunt for the real pods now, which can be expensive.
The product is suitable for vegetarians and contains no artificial colours or preservatives, I know this can be quite hard to believe but it really does give the same results as pure vanilla pods.
Ingredients contained in this extract are, Water, Alcohol, Colour, Plain caramel and Flavoring.
This handy extract comes in a 38ml bottle, and can be purchased for 1.31p per bottle at any super market.
If you are a home made cooking junkie, then this is a must in any cupboard. It is Ideal for flavoring cakes, biscuits, icings, desserts, sauces and certain savory goods.
Summary: great flavouring at a very cheap price.

Vanilla pods generally range from around £2.00 for three pods depending on who packaged them. usually in a small jar. on herb and spice shelf. |
