Advantages: Chocolate!
Disadvantages: Some thins are just unnecesary!
Christmas = chocolate, chocolate = orange. Chocolate and orange = Terry's. There's no two ways about it, even those mad boffins who calculate the formulae for toast of the perfect chip would have to agree! Crimbo aint Crimbo without Terry's Chocolate Orange! As usual I knew what those little square boxes contained, but it was with trepidation I opened the peculiar dome shaped present, and almost dropped it in horror. Those manufacturers have been playing about with them! ( of course I'd seem them before, but allow me some artistic license!) My (yes, my) beloved segments had been re'labled 'Segsations' and now came in 5 varieties. Plain old Terry's chocolate segments. Chocolate orange with honeycomb crunchy bits, Chocolate orange with a 'cheeky' layer of dark chocolate (their description, not mine) Chocolate orange with puffed rice, And Chocolate orange made of white chocolate! Dip me hand in and come up with a red wrapper, the 'cheeky' dark layer. Its obviously Chocolate Orange but mingled is this creamy, yet bitter shock of dark chocolate. To be honest its a lovely taste of flavours, the milk and the bitter, but alas its not entirely for me. Crispy blue with the puffed rice. Well, it looks normal until you turn it over and see the bobbly bottomed bit. The rice crispies are at the underneath with only a thin layer of chocolate covering them so you end up with the peculiar sensation of having one side of your mouth full of chocolate and the other half full of crispies. Quite peculiar and not extremely nice because the crispies have gone all soggy where you've been sucking them! A completely unnecessary addition to a perfect good chocolate! Step forward the Virgin chocolate! The pure white one! I'm not a huge fan of white chocolate, I find it too sickly and this is no exception! There isn't really a discernible orange t
aste but what I did find was a harsh aftertaste, not at all creamy and quite unpleasant. I think these are going to be the Coffee Cremes of the Segsations box! Come on up Ms orange and show me what you honeycomb bits are like! Oh now this is good! The usually delicious chocolate melts and leaves a number of honeycomb nuggets balanced and resting on your tongue. There they stay giving off a sweet, sweet taste, melting slowly, but oh, the temptation to crunch them up is torturously sweet in itself! Out of the four different varieties this is by far and beyond the best Now down to the Daddy of the group, Mr Dark Blue, the One, the Only, the Original. Oh my God, there's nothing like it! Its smooth, creamy. Very chocolaty with that almost bitter orange taste. The best of the bunch. I have actually written an entire review of Terry's Chocolate Orange so I feel it would be a bit cheeky to reiterate it here. Tempting thought that is. So in reverse order, here is my run down of the Segsations: 5) White chocolate 4) Puffed rice 3) Dark 'cheeky' layer 2) Honeycomb bits And the winner is....Original Terry's Chocolate Orange!....Funny that! Although all were 'nice', it just goes to show that you cant always improve on the original, in fact you should just leave thing alone sometimes. I certainly appreciated getting these for a present, but I have to admit I'm more likely to buy the individual original segments, or even the original ball for that matter. Not that you'd want to consume them too frequently anyway! This 330g tub contains over 1600 calories. Your looking at 28.7g of fat per 100g, its also 57.3g of sugars, may as well just sellotape them to your thighs. At least you could remove them afterwards, even if it doesn't taste as nice! You've also got a problem if you've got a nut or wheat allergy. At first glance there doesn't appear to be a
nything with nuts in, but the warning is there. So my advice is to you is to sit down, kick off your shoes. Switch on Zulu, and tap and unwrap the original!

sillygoose - 11/02/04 well I've now read 2 reviews of this product in the same day completely by chance so I feel obliged to go out and buy some soon.......even if they aren't that great. Then again I do like white chocolate anyway so surely not even those ones can be too bad to my not-particularly-fussing- when-it-comes-to-anything -sweet taste buds!
Thanks for leaving your comment on my 'noughts and crosses' op. it's interesting to read different views:-)
I definately agree that we are 'supposed to like it because of its subject'.......i guess you'd just be seen as mean if you didn't! but although you disagree about how well it was written, which is fair enough, it certainly left an impression on you.....which says something at least, I think.
look forward to reading more of your reviews soon.
