Advantages: Good tasting after dinner mints
Disadvantages: Could be more generous with the fondant filling.
Review of Terry's Twilight after dinner mint chocolates.
~~The Product~~
**Packaging and Contents**
Terry's Twilight are an after dinner type chocolate mint. The individually wrapped chocolates are presented in an attractive, slim, gold cardboard box, decorate with scrolls. The box carries a deep green banner across the middle which bears the Terry's trademark and the 'Twilight' name in a gold font.
The banner also features the description 'Rich, dark chocolate with a smooth mint fondant centre, laced with crisp sugar pieces' and a picture of the chocolates.
The box is a little tricky to open neatly, in fact my other half opened ours and ended up simply ripping it apart, however, I'm sure others would manage to open the box with a little less haste! Inside the box is a plastic tray holding 24 individually wrapped after dinner mints. The chocolates are shaped like miniature chocolate bars and are double wrapped in foil with a paper outer wrapping.
**Appearance, Aroma, Taste and Texture**
The strongly minty aroma fills your nostrils as soon as you open the outer wrapper. The sweet and fresh mint smell definitely overpowers any chocolatey aroma that might have been present.
The actual chocolate is a very deep brown in colour as one would expect from Terry's dark chocolate. At first bite, the minty taste hits the taste buds and it is a clean, fresh minty flavour, not that toothpaste like taste sometimes found in mint flavoured sweets! The minty layer within the chocolate is thin, bordering on stingy in my view, especially when compared to the image on the carton!
As you bite through the chocolate, you are aware of the crispy pieces as promised on the pack. These are not unpleasant in any way but I did not find that they actually added anything to the product. The chocolate quality is extremely good, a very rich dark chocolate with no bitterness or cloying after-taste, just good, dark chocolate.
The chocolate texture is also very good, smooth and tasty, very satisfying and luxurious in my opinion.
**Nutritional information, Allergy Advice and Manufacturer Details**
This is chocolate and as such will never really be categorised as a healthy option. With this in mind I will not list all the ingredients, it is unnecessary and I am sure no one wishes to plough through it anyway!
Suffice to say that the dark chocolate contains 40% Cocoa solids, other ingredients are as expected in a confectionery product, sugars, fats, milk and so on.
In my humble opinion the calorie content of Twilight is a winning point in their favour, at 35 calories per chocolate, weight concious consumers can tuck into a couple without ruining their diet....of course the problem is, can you leave it at one or two?
Twilight chocolates are suitable for vegetarians, the product may contain traces of nut and wheat products so consumers sensitive to these ingredients should exercise caution..
As with all chocolate products Twilight should be stored in a cool dry place as chocolate can deteriorate in humid conditions.
Twilight Chocolates are made in the EU for Kraft Foods, the parent company of Terry's.
Further information on both Terry's and Craft Foods and how to fit Twilight into a healthy diet can be found on their web site, www..krafthealthyliving.co.uk
Twilight are available at all major supermarkets at varying prices, the average seems to be in the region of £1.80. I have also seen them in my local £1 store.
**My Thoughts and Conclusion**
Twilight are very good after dinner mints, a reasonably priced and delicious chocolate treat. They are NOT the best on the market, there are other brands which I have to admit I prefer, but that aside, Twilight are an excellent buy and one I would recommend to others.
