Advantages: Unique taste, Great as a gift or for personal use, Ideal for sharing around

Disadvantages: If you don't like orange, Maybe the price

After hearing so much about Terry’s Chocolate Orange I just could not resist the temptation in picking up a tub on my recent shopping spree last week.

Terry’s is a well-known brand and does not really need much introducing. The company was established in 1886 and spanning more than a century has created wonderful and exciting chocolate products.

Presently Kraft Foods own Terry’s and again this is a company that does not need much introduction.

The original Terry’s Orange chocolate (the one shaped as an orange) was introduced way back in 1931/32 and it was not until 1999 were the Orange Mini Segments introduced.

The idea to come out with these mini segments was probably be due to the fact that the original Chocolate Orange consisted of rather large chunks of chocolates and was presented in a way that made them more suitable as giving out as a gift rather than someone picking them up for personal use and enjoyment.

These mini segments instead provide you with smaller pieces of chocolate that are individually wrapped and presented in a tub. This allows you to keep them for much longer, once they have been opened and also makes them perfect for sharing around.

Terry’s get the orange taste and flavour by adding orange oil. I can only presume that the orange oil must be derived from the orange peel, rather than the actual orange fruit. Several liqueur manufacturers, who use orange as an ingredient, also use the orange peel, so this was a calculated guess.

The tubs are quite attractive and are certainly shaped and designed with “orange” in mind. The printing of the tub is based and centered around the now famous Terry’s Orange label and consists of predominantly orange and blue colours.

These tubs come in a size of 330gms and each tubs consists of 26 individually wrapped chocolates. This provides individual freshness to each segment (piece) and allows you
to keep the box for longer (not that I think it would last very long). I am not sure if they make any other sizes though.

As you would expect they taste orangey and have a zesty element to them. They taste of what you would expect when buying this product. I personally have always liked chocolates that contain elements of fruit or fruit filled chocolates, strawberry, orange and lemon spring to mind. So certainly I do enjoy these and therefore it is very surprising that it was only just last week that I had my first taste of these.

They are available in both Dark and Milk Chocolate. However I have not seen the dark chocolate variety around and this I presume must be due to the milk chocolate types popularity over the dark one.

As you would expect from most chocolate these are pretty high on calories and I don’t think I need to go into specific calorie/fat content. Basically all chocolates contain high amount of calories and fat. Full stop.

As far as pricing goes these go for anywhere between £2.99 to £3.50 depending where you buy it from. You might find them on offer at Tesco, Sainsbury’s and the likes so keep your eyes firmly open. Personally I think this represents quite good value for money for such a high quality and unique product.

Overall Terry’s Chocolate Orange Mini Segments provides a sumptuous chocolate treat and one that is enjoyed my many including myself. After all 350 million segments are sold every year so why not pick up a box of 26 segments and try them out yourself, that is if you haven’t already.
