Advantages: Amazing flavour, texture and asthetic
Disadvantages: Very fatty and addictive
Terry's chocolate orange was always a great treat at Christmas, something I always looked forward to along with snow, Santa, family and presents. The smooth texture, the unique blend of chocolate and orange and the aesthetic design are the three main factors of what make a chocolate orange so appealing.
There are many other orange chocolates out there but none seem to compare in flavour to the chocolate orange. The orange flavour in other chocolates is either strong or way too subtle, but in the chocolate orange, there is an even balance which makes for a great taste.
The basic orange consist of a blend of milk chocolate and orange flavours. There are also large dark chocolate oranges and then a segment box. These segment boxes contain a selection of different flavoured chocolate orange chunks, with flavours such as white chocolate, dark chocolate and segments with crispy chunks within them. They are all very good and it is easy to eat loads.
The shape of a chocolate orange is also appealing. The sphere that you have to pick apart to get the sections, or if you are too eager like myself crack on a hard surface and then pull apart, is extremely well designed. It looks nice when opened from its wrapping and nice when apart in segments.
The only real drawback of a chocolate orange is that one orange weighing 175g contains 52.5g of fat, which works out at around 81% of your daily guideline amount. Some people may have the restraint to eat just a few segments but it is more than easy enough to demolish most of the orange if not all of it.
Even though this is the case I would still hold the chocolate orange one of my favourite chocolates, and since I only really eat it at Christmas it is not too much of a problem.
Summary: A great christmas chocolate but try to eat them in moderation
