Advantages: orange flavour isn't too strong.
Disadvantages: leaves an aftertaste
I'm not sure why people want their chocolate to not taste like chocolate. Mixing it with mint, coffee, strawberry or rasberry. I can almost understand it if the extra flavourings are subtly but in quite a few cases the chocolate tastes is bearly there. The Terry's Orange is one combination that I can manage without turning away in disgust. Maybe this could be down to eating it from an early age. Every Christmas, come rain or shine, I'll be having one.
Still in its little blue cardboard box with a circle cut out and it's clear plastic casing in the inside to keep the 'orange' in place. You could almost say it's a scaled down version of your easter egg packaging. The chocolate is wrapped in a foil orange colour with a blue label/sticker to hold it all together. Unfortunately that makes it a bit difficult for me to savour it. Once opened it's not that simple for me to close it and put it away.
If you remember the Dawn French adverts you might recall the phrase 'Whack it, don't tap it!' At the time the segments were stuck together in a circular shape. For me it wasn't very easy to separate the pieces. Thankfully they've changed it so although it still in its usualy orange shape, each segment is individual and not stuck together in one block. They have a bite to them as they are just like thick chocolate in in orange shaped pieces.
The chocolate itself is a nice milky flavour. Whilst it is sweet and creamy you get a nice combination with the citrus flavour creeping in. It isn't hitting you as soon as you bite into it hence the reason why I like it. The orange taste also dims down the sweetness of the chocolate. A downside is that it does leave an aftertaste in your mouth.
It is also very moreish. One or two pieces isn't enough. After attempting to wrap it up and heading downstairs within minutes I was back again. The sweetness means that you might need a drink to go with it. Sometimes I find that it leaves your mouth feeling dry.
As it's chocolate you're not going to expect it to be too healthy. In 20 segments you're getting 175g of chocolate. Per 3 segments you are eating 138 calories, 15g carbohydrate, 7.8g fat and 0.06g salt. It is actually flavoured with real orange but it may contain traces of nuts and wheat. It is also suitable for vegetarians.
I got mine for a 2 for £2 deal from Sainsburys, usual price is £1.56. One of those was for part of a birthday present.
This is a lovely thing to eat and if you don't fancy a whole orange then you could always resort to a bar version (see picture above), for about 50p or a dark chocolate variety. A very tastey treat!
