I adore Activia yoghurts, especially the ones with the fruit puree layers at the bottom. Unfortunately, unless they are on offer, the yoghurts also have a price tag to match their expensive experience so needless to say I do not buy them very often. However when browsing the yoghurts at Tesco recently, I came across an option that seemed like a good substitute.

The Tesco Active Balance is apparently a healthy option Tesco has to offer (compared to their thick and creamy choices packed with calories and fat). At first glance I could see that they looked similar to the layered Activia yoghurts - the pots here are clear and you can see in that there is what looks to be a fruity layer underneath the yoghurt part. Also, the word 'layered' on the cardboard sleeve kind of gives it away too! There is also a picture of two luscious strawberries, infoming you instantly of the flavour. There is no denying that these yoghurts looked delicious, but how would they taste?

The yoghurts come in a four pack, so I snapped one of the pots off, ready to eat. When I peeled back the lid I was met by a very faint strawberry scent, however it was detectable. A mild scent is not always too bad with yoghurts - sometimes the stronger aromas can be off putting. The yoghurt itself looked a little creamy coloured, rather than the fresh white shade I was expecting. Though it still looked simply delicious. Taking my spoon I sampled some of the yoghurt part. To my delight it was very cool and creamy, and not too sweet at all. I also found it had a hint of strawberry flavour i it, obviously drifting up from the base. Digging a little deeper I reached the fruit part. This, I found, was quite thick and not as runny or as sticky as I had imagined - perfect! It had quite a sweet strawberry flavour, with rather large pieces of fruit in it. However the strawberry 'bits' were quite juicy and incredibly delicious. It complimented the yoghurt part well, which of course is always helpful! It most certainly tasted delicious, with a great texture, and was a delight to eat.

As this is a healthy option, I was keen to know just how healthy it was. The nutritional information is printed on the front of the cardboard sleeve and also on the back too in a little table. It turns out each 125g pot contains 120 calories and 16.9g sugars, as well as 3.16g. It also contains active bifidus cultures to help maintain a healthy body. Without a doubt, this is definitely a healthy option to go for!

Not only is this healthy, but the yoghurt is also quite useful too. It is quite a nice size to pop into a lunchbox and take with you so you can eat it on the go. It would also be delicious with berry fruits, or liven up your morning weetabix. You can also wash out the pot and use it for arts and crafts- it would make a wonderful robot nose!

In comparison to other yoghurts, this one can be placed mid way. It's not my favourite yoghurt - I'd rather have a Muller Light or Weight Watchers option. However, I found it to be more delightful than the Activia layered yoghurts, with a much more delightful fruit layer and creamier yoghurt too. It is also a lot cheaper too. For Activia you can pay around £2+ for a pack of four, and Tesco are asking for just £1 for these. Now at 25p a yoghurt, you really cannot go wrong can you?

This is most certainly a delicious yoghurt, incredibly healthy, and has a wonderful price tag to match. I'd say Tesco have done well with this one! I'll have to make my way to trying the prune option next. This is definitely a wonderful substitute for the Activia options, and well worth a try.
