Advantages: Very tasty, Reasonably priced, Suitable for vegetarians
Disadvantages: Not particularly low in fat!
Breakfast at my house during the week tends to be a rushed affair... it regularly gets missed out altogether, or, if time is made for breakfast it's often a very quick slice of toast...
At the weekend, however, it's different. Sunday's tend to be our most lazy day, and it's on Sunday's we tend to indulge in our alternative breakfast... croissants!
Tesco's All Butter Croissants are sold in packets of 4 or 8 - the 8-pack being slightly better value, priced at £0.98 compared with the 4-pack at 56p. (Incidentally both of these products have come down in price over the past 6 months or so). The see-through packaging is very simple, but excellent in the way that it allows you to see what you're getting (personally I prefer to look for the paler looking croissants). The croissants are sat in a clear plastic tray, which serves the purpose of making them look nice, and helps them from getting squashed out of shape, and this is packaged in a clear plastic wrapping. It's this clear plastic wrapping that contains all the information you'll want to know about your croissants!
The health conscious out there will perhaps not be overjoyed at the 379 kcal per 100g, but, if you're about to indulge in croissants for breakfast then you're probably not sticking to your diet anyway! As a vegetarian, I was just happy to see that it was clearly labelled as being suitable for vegetarians (something that Tesco is good at putting on all their veggie-proof items).
Each croissant is a lovely golden brown colour, and, although not huge in size, one or two tend to be sufficient for an average breakfast. The smell is lovely - straight from the packet they smell faintly buttery, and when warmed the smell is intensified and they smell delicious - definitely the kind of smell you'll enjoy if you like the smell of fresh baked bread.
Tesco recommend heating the croissants on a pre-heated baking tray in a pre-heated oven at 200ºC / 400ºF / Gas Mark 6 for 2-3 minutes. Being an impatient person, I prefer to use the microwave, although the packaging clearly states not suitable for microwave heating! I find that 2 - 4 on a plate, put in the microwave for about 45 - 60 seconds tend to taste just as good, however, if you let them go cold they tend to be a bit tough - similarly if you over cook them in the microwave they tend to go a bit hard around the edges.
Taste-wise, I think these are some of the best supermarket croissants you can get. The croissants aren't too greasy, nor are they too crumbly or crispy around the edges. The texture is soft and they taste freshly made. The taste and texture of these makes them fine eaten on their own, however, for the more indulgent, a little extra butter spread on to the croissant while it's still warm makes it very tasty, or alternatively a spreading of strawberry jam!
Although Tesco also offer a 'Finest' version, I find these almost just as good, and much better value at only about 12p each based on 8-pack prices (Tesco Finest Croissants are available in a 4-pack for £1.59, though to be fair they are bigger in size).
Croissant Trivia - Croissants are thought to have originated in 1686 in Buddapest. Apparantly bakers working at night raised an alarm when Turkish invaders attempted to dig into the city. Later the bakers created the crescent shaped croissant to mock the Turkish flag.

Eaten warmed up or straight from the packet, as a breakfast or a snack, I would highly recommend Tesco All Butter Croissants * * * *
