Advantages: Really tasty and can be eaten hot or cold
Disadvantages: Quite fatty so don't eat them everday
I don't like to eat breakfast instead I am more likely to have a mid morning snack of fruit or a cereal bar as I am never hungry enough to eat breakfast. I do however like to eat croissants as a snack. I normally buy the Tesco All Butter Croissants, they come in either a packet of 4 or a packet of 8, I'm reviewing the packet of 4 as 8 is just too much for my husband & I to eat.
They cost £0.88 for a packet of 4 which is a fair price making them a mere £0.22 each. They come in clear plastic bag so that you see them before you buy them. The front of the packet has a streak of blue across it on which the name is written and the Tesco logo is there. On the back of the packet is a larger blue area with the ingredients, nutritional information and the cooking instructions. Inside the packet they are in a clear plastic tray to help stop them from getting squashed.
Ingredients:
Wheat Flour, Unsalted Butter (26%), Water, Sugar, Pasteurised Whole Egg, Yeast, Salt, Emulsifier (Mono- and Di-Acetyltartaric Esters of Mono- and Di-Glycerides of Fatty Acids), Flour Treatment Agent (Ascorbic Acid).
They contain:
Milk, Wheat, Gluten, Egg and Tesco cannot guarantee that they are nut free. On the plus side they are suitable for vegetarians.
Each croissant contains:
Calories:
190kcal, 10% of your GDA
Sugar:
2.6g, 3% of your GDA
Fat:
10.4g, 15% of your GDA
Saturates:
6.4g, 32% of your GDA
Salt:
0.5g, 8% of your GDA
As you can see they are not the most healthy of breakfast foods as they do contain a large amount of saturated fat and quite a few calories so perhaps these are not ideal for eating everyday.
These can be eaten cold straight from the packet or heated up. To dot his Tesco recommends that you use an oven instead of a microwave because, as with a lot of foods, they tend to go a bit hard and tough when microwave cooked. Simple preheat your oven to 200C/400F/Gas Mark 6 and let place them in the centre for about 3 minutes.
I'm sure that you all know what a croissant looks like but just in case I will describe them for you, these ones are a sort of oblong shape although the traditional ones are actually a half moon shape. They have a lovely golden colour and smell of butter.
I must say that warming them up does tend to bring out the smell of butter even more and it is nice to have a warm snack but they do taste fine straight from the packet especially when you are in a rush. They have a pleasant buttery taste to them and if I'm eating them at home warm then I like to add some strawberry jam. They are really good quality, like most Tesco products, they are neither too dry nor too greasy, perfect. You will however need to eat them quickly as they only have a short product life of 1-3 days, they are best on the first day and to be honest my husband & I always manage to finish them then.
Overall I think that these are really good quality croissants and are great as a snack, or for those of you who eat it, they'd be nice for breakfast, great hot or cold. 10 out of 10.
Summary: Yum!
